Hoodia Anyone?

Quote  |  Reply
Has anyone tried NV or any other products with Hoodia in it?  Does it work?

I've not tried it - but I am curious.
I've not tried it. Most of the people I've seen responding to this question generally have negative things to say about it. There are.. side effects.

I suggest you stay away from Hoodia.
DON'T!  Basically, it's just a big scam.

Please read this thread:

http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/2107 8.html
I remember around summer time- Eric- the moderator tried it and he said that it was working for him.... depends on which brand you try...
Uh.... I doubt that very much, jen...

As far as I know, Erik (the moderator), right now, eats well and exercises every morning before work.

Can you link me to that thread, jen?
*sigh*

again, it doesn't matter what 'brand' you try.......

none of them contain any hoodia and it doesn't work once in dried form anyway.

placebos are wonderful things though ;)
According to every report I've read, hoodia does indeed work like a charm, but something like 9 out of every 10 hoodia products on the market contain NO actual hoodia (current supply could in no way meet the demand).
My mom just started taking hoodia and loves it. She said that the max no. of pills you can take a day is 6, but 2 is sufficient enough to curb her appetite and increase her energy level. I have not tried it yet (I am breastfeeding my whippersnapper yet) but so plan to try it or a supplement that contains it in the next 6 mo. or so. But when she asked me about if I had tried it, I advised her to get a well-known brand that stated it was 100% South African hoodia. She got hers from GNC I believe... I guess it depends on what you are looking for, everyone is different.
If it works, all it does is suppress appetite.  The only way you will lose weight is with a stringent controlled diet and exercise. You can supress your appetite with a glass of water.

A more interesting question is - what happens when you finally stop taking it and your appetite comes back?  If you haven't learned how to eat properly, you'll gain it all back, I bet.

Note:  I'll try to find an article I read recently that says that it only works if you eat the actual green plant.  That's what the Bushmen do on long journeys by foot to keep from getting hungry.  It's an endangered plant in the wild but is being cultivated.
Hkellick- I found the post :)  It was March 11, 2006-  and it was made by an Eric- but it was Ericwiz- I knew I saw an Eric- I thought he was the moderator- My mistake- or as they say- "My bad".....
does no one read my posts or something?

and bekaspaeth1: why on earth would you put something into your body, pregnant/nursing/normally, that you have no idea what it actually is?

I'll try one more time:

THERE IS NO HOODIA IN THE PILLS PEOPLE ARE TAKING.

HOODIA NO LONGER WORKS ONCE DRIED (ie: pills).

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU GET THEM FROM, THEY ARE JUST STEALING YOUR MONEY.
Wow, fmjess... really, no need to yell I think.

My mother used Hoodia X pf a while back. She lost almost 30 pounds and when she quit taking it, her body was used to the way she had been eating. She continued on that way. It DOES help you lose weight. It IS an appetite suppressant, and No, you won't balloon back up once you quit taking it. It IS expensive and you can go to a retail store and buy an appetite suppressant there that will work just as well.
I think yelling isn't enough, since no one can understand the simple points about this product.

I guess people will always believe in scams.  Mind over matter (in this case matter being a literal meaning) is a very powerful thing.

Not sure what's in the pills that people it helps take..... but it has nothing to do with the hoodia plant.  period.

If people want to waste their money on mystery pills, that's fine....... just please don't encourage others to take them.  Since there is no "hoodia" in any of these pills, someone could have an allergic reaction or something along those lines to one of the filler ingredients put in there instead and DIE

Only when people start dying from this scam will people figure out that maybe it's not smart to take something when you actually have no idea what it is.
mistyanne, your mother lost weight because she stuck to a low calorie diet.  She could have done that without the pills.

Personally I am offended by your lack of concern for the person who started this thread and all that read it. This level of negativity isn't what this site is about. When I joined I thought it was for support, not for the sport of putting others down.
I'm in agreement. And I don't think it's fair to discount something so vehemently when the jury's still out on its effects. Obviously some people have achieved their goals with hoodia. Different strokes for different folks. I don't think it's necessary to resort to belittling others to make a point. It's just not helpful.
We're all here for positive support. Please be kind and treat others the way you'd like to be treated. Sarcasm and meanness hurt.

On hte topic of hoodia, I think that it's tough to say whether it is good to use as a supplement. I'm personally scared to take something when I haven't seen a whole lot of conclusive medical research about it. I know a few people from other sites who use hoodia and swear by it. I would prefer to lose weight without pills, but if hoodia worked and was definitely safe, I'd be tempted to try it.
There have been "reports" of hoodia working.  From the people I know who have taken it, the effects are usually more mental.  If you are thinking that it will work, then for some people, they will think they are less hungry.

So if you need that for a boost, go ahead and spend the $50 per bottle (or whatever the cost + shipping).

Its a fad thing.  Like most things that are said to help in weight loss.  They are simply very well marketed.

As for the whole "you are mean to me" thing, this is the internet, get used to it.  Don't let people get under your skin.  You are creating more board drama by posting about how mean the people are.  Let it go.
