Does Hoodia work?
Asked by anonymous on Mar 09, 2007 in Alternative & Integrative Nutrition

What's up with Hoodia? I see it everywhere in the Internet. Does it work?

Answer

Hoodia gordonii is a spiny succulent plant used by the Bushmen of Southern Africa to suppress hunger during long hunting trips. Hoodia is sold as capsules, tablets, chewing gum, soft chews, lollipops, tinctures, shakes, and snack bars. There is no published scientific evidence that Hoodia works and questions of safety have not been answered. Hoodia is not approved by the FDA. Most doctors advise against using it.
