I hope the calories stay in Vegas!
I need some traveling tips. I am going to Vegas for a friend's wedding and staying for 4 days. I have been doing so well for the past 2 months, losing 9 lbs! But I am a little worried about gorging myself on free drinks and good food.
1.) I guess I need to know what are some relatively safe (calorie-wise) drinks that I can stick to?
2.) Would I look like a crazy person if I pack little snacks like pre-measured nuts...or I don't even know of any snacks that would survive in a suitcase and airplane for a couple hours...would that make me look obsessive? What are some good packable snacks?
Oh man...I just want to have fun...I don't think I will have access to even log my calories...or should I just go with the flow and enjoy myself?? How do you guys survive traveling and dieting?

I just came back from a weekend in Sin City, and I didn't wreck my diet plans. You can still pick healthy foods and try to estimate portions to fit your plan. For me, I just did what I would do when I stop counting calories, because I'm not going to log everything I eat for the rest of my life. I say just go and enjoy yourself. If you're worried about the free booze at the casinos, don't - they put very little alcohol in the cocktails lol
everything in moderation...spend time at the gym at the hotel...water between drinks...less carbs to fill up on the other treats there...why eat bread when you can have a stuffed mushroom or even a dessert?
Don't worry too much...your weight loss will be waiting...try not to gain and you will be doing great!
As for Vegas, stop by La Bayou on Freemont street and ask for their house drink, the "Adios Mother******". It's aptly named, and may help you to stop worrying about counting calories while you're there. ;-)
* Actually, I probably take 3 or 4 "cheat weeks" a year.
Thanks everyone! I kind of felt that I should just give myself a break but I guess I needed a little approval. I am so going to try this drink chriswain! It will be nice to forget about grams and ounces and calories and fiber and protein for a bit! ![]()
Hey when you going to Vegas?
I am leaving Sunday night for the dreaded 4 hour flight!!! We are staying at the Orleans!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!
~H~
I still have about a month to go, we are leaving on May 7th and returning the 10th. We are staying at the Flamingo...this is my first time going to Vegas so I am very excited!! Have a good time haley!
Oh my goodness that is the best drink EVER!!! I love it! I grew up in Utah and there were only a handful of clubs that knew how to make that drink. So far here in TExas they look at me like I'm crazy when I try to order it. *can't remember what's in it so just give the bartender at least that much to work with* In utah they sometimes call it an AMF obvious abbreviation.
Enjoy yourself! BTW What IS inthat drink for my own benefit next time I go out, I'd love to have it!
Thanks!
Vegas has some of the best food in the world, so yeah, just be prepared to eat, haha. I went with friends, and in most places we'd kind of just order less meals than there were people, and share. That way you get to try a bit of everything. There are lots of different flavourful appetizers and such, eat those and don't waste space on things you can get anywhere, like fries.
Plus you don't want to be walking around in Vegas heat on a really full stomach. It feels gross, trust me.
Here is my tip, Le Village buffet is awesome. Go eat 5,000 calories there.
Eat about 5 creme brulees. I did.

haha most bars around here serve it, and it's this huge pitcher of blue knock-ya-outness. It has vodka, rum, tequila, gin, curacao, and like a slight dash of clear soda.
lemon drop martini's are a good mixed drink that are only 150 calories each. But as far as foods, just stay away from the buffets and try to find the foods that resemble something you'd make at home. Definitely pack snacks for the plane and hotel. But if I were you, I'd just try to eat at maintenance for those 4 days and give yourself a break. You will be doing sight-seeing, walking, etc. while in Vegas right? So you will be getting in activity. I'd say let yourself have a maintenance week and then get back on the diet when you get back home. Hope this helps. Oh and by the way, I live in Vegas 24/7. There ARE healthy options here I promise!
When I accept the fact that my food is going to be different than everyone else's. And that I am still going to have a good time, and that food isn't everything, and I realize that I need to have other things I like to do besides eat.... I have a really great traveling experience.
Stick to basics with everything you eat and drink.
For example, eat chicken breast, with potato and veggie. If you think about it, most places can create that. As far as beverages are concerned; try sparkling water, tea, or some speciality, low cal beverage. You'll feel better after. If you MUST drink -- again go basic. General rule, the least ingredients, the better.
Relax hun! If you're not leaving until May 7, you still have plenty of time to prepare yourself. I know you're concerned about this trip, as you're already planning for it. Which isn't a bad thing. I'd be excited to about going to Vegas. Wow! And quite nervous. But stop worrying. It'll be fine...you'll be fine.
1.) For the time being, continue sticking to your plan. (Nutrition and fitness wise) Maybe a week before you go step up your routine. Exercise a little more, make sure you get the best bang for your calories, etc.
2.) You're going to Vegas for your friends wedding, not the food. (Well, maybe in the back of your mind that too, lol) Focus on the bride and the other people that will be there with you. Eat a little of what they serve and be done. Portion control is key. Continue on talking and laughing with your friends.
3.) It's only 3 days. It'll be over and done with before you know it. You'll get through this. Take in all the surroundings. It's Vegas baby, there's a lot more to see than food. Indulge in the rich food that you can only find in Vegas. Enjoy it. Knowing that you won't be making a habit of it should help you relax and able to enjoy it without worrying. You deserve a break, a good time. You've worked hard. Don't think about counting calories and all that other junk. It'll be waiting for you when you return. It' healthy to break your routine every so often. &nb sp;
Have fun! I can't wait to hear all about it. &nb sp;
