Hi everyone/anyone

ok so here's the deal;  I ve dieted on and off my whole life lol. I tired the cabbage soup diet, i sweated to the oldies, I did weight watchers all with little success.

Finally at 30 y/o and two kids and a divorce later, i did the grapefruit diet  for 4 months, took ephedra and joined a gym which i hit 3 to 4 times a week doing 40 minutes of cardio and weights, I went from 177 to 140 pounds.  By that April I was 40 pounds thinner and lost 9 inches on my hips 5 on my waist and I kept the weight off for a little over 3 years. Then I got married again, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I got comfortable, my husband and I like to eat and have wine with dinner and I gained back the 30 pounds+ another 20!.

So in June  of 08, I did the master cleanser diet and dropped 10 pounds, now at 37 as of 7/08  I am back at the gym just got up to 30 mins of cardio and counting calories which is healthier then the grapefruit diet, but i havent lost a pound. I am of 1) wondering what the hell I am doing wrong? and I am really starting to think that i am the kind of person who can only do some extreme diet to lose weight, did I mess myself that bad that I can';t lose weight? please someone help! I have no thyroid problem and I just can't hear that " it gets harder when your older" What am 90 and bed ridden? no! help!!!!

I'm going to assume that the "master cleanser diet" did NOT have more than 1200 calories per day... which means that you probably put your body into starvation mode and right now it's trying to compensate by holding onto every extra calorie.

How many calories are you eating daily? It should be more than 1200- more if you're exercising everyday. You should never have a consistent deficit of more than 1000 cal/day.

Once you up your calories to give your body proper nutrition, it will take a few weeks to adjust. During this time you might not see any loss or even a slight gain. Don't worry though, it will balance out and then you'll start losing the healthy way.

The exteme dieting is the source of the trouble, and by getting into normal weight loss practices, you can finally lose in a healthy way. Use the tools here to find out what you burn and aim to eat about 500 cals less, but never LESS than 1200 total cals and do not have more than a 100 calorie deficit. Pretty straight forward. It takes TIME, so be patient!

good luck.

All the extreme dieting just hurts your body and in the long run makes you gain more weight.  Doing it the healthy way you will be able to help your body adjust therefore not shocking your system and the weight when it starts to come off will stay off!!  Make sure you are eating eating over 1200 calories day but in order to lose weight you do need to make sure you burn more calories than you eat.  Do not worry though you will see a change in time...don't focus on the scale numbers.  You can get healthy and fit without losing a ton of weight.  Good Luck :0)

My experience has been very similar to yours. I agree with the other two respondants. Starvation diets do nothing but put your body in starvation mode. You will hang onto every bit of water and fat because your body is protecting itself. If you do a websearch on damaged metabolism, or metabolism repair, you will see a lot of information. If the sights you are looking at want to sell you something - DON'T LISTEN to a thing they are telling you. Find a website that is purely informational and medically based. It takes several weeks to recover but you will recover if you eat over 1200 cals (1500 is recommended by several sources). Good Luck!

hi Salrob-

thanks I am so glad someone understands what I am saying, I starting thinking that maybe i totally messed my metobolism up, and "extreme dieting" was my only way to get it off. Although, 1500 sounds like a lot of calories I will definetly try it. Thanks!

Good luck! It does take time.  Please do some more research on it before you determine the exact number of calories you will take in.
