No one would perceive me as someone who can't control their eating because I am too skinny and eat mostly healthy food.  But when I DO like something I seriously cannot control myself!

I'm having an especially hard time with fruit.  I have a lot of stomach problems and want to rule out all complications that come just from eating too much bulk.  I do okay eliminating fruit for a while, but as soon as I do eat it I can't stop!  Not just initially, but any time I get my hands on it.

So far today I've had almost half a watermelon, a carton of strawberriess, blueberries, grapes, and a bunch of pineapple.  And I'll still be wanting more!

I just want to find moderation, not having to cut it out but not so much either!

I'm on a 3000+ [working towards 4000] calorie diet now so shouldn't I be wanting to eat lots of peanut butter and calorically dense foods? I want to eat so much more fat to get my period back, but then I jut can't stop myself from eating the light stuff.

I also get a lot of flak from my parents for eating so much "diet food" too, so then I feel guilty too.

So after all that venting, does anyone have any ideas why the heck I'm so hooked on fruit?

I know the obvious answer is to have a reasonable portion and increase the other stuff I eat [especially fats!]...why is it so hard for me to do that?

Most people have favourite foods that they find difficult to stop eating once they start.  For you it's fruit, for me it's nuts.  That's just the way it goes.

If you're trying to gain weight what your body needs is energy and lots of it.  Bodies are sort of programmed to send us looking for sugary foods when they're low in energy...  reason being that sugar is most quickly absorbed into the bloodstream.  Fruit contains quite a lot of sugar.

Same as I have to make a determined effort to stay away nuts and eat more low-cal, high-bulk foods to keep my weight down...  you have to make more of an effort to stay away from the fruit and plan your meals around alternatives that are high-cal, low-bulk.  Ultimately, it's a question of understanding your weaknesses but not letting them get in the way of what you need to achieve or using them as an excuse.

If you're going to choose any fruit try energy-dense things like banana and raisins and stay away from the 'sugar water' ones like watermelons and berries.

just wanted to wish you good luck on getting your period back. i didn't have an eating disorder but i got way too thin when i started eating "healthier" and i ended up unintentionally eating too few calories and lost my period for 2 years. but it came back in may after i upped my calories and most importantly my fat intake a lot, so it can take a lot of time. eating fruit is great, but you can still eat more calorically dense stuff too, especially if it's not bulky. like try putting peanut butter on your apples. or try pairing your fruit with cheese. this is more of a treat, but fruit pizza is delicious. i usually use refrigerated crescent roll dough, or maybe you could make some kind of whole-wheat crust for it, put sweetened cream cheese over it, and top with fruit.

another idea is to mix your fruit with yogurt to get more nutrition, get the kind with fat since you wanna increase your fat intake.
