Hormone help...

Quote  |  Reply
I'd like to start this out by asking you to please keep the focus on DIETING, and not on psychology or religion or whatever.

This month I'm going to start taking estrogen (currently I'm a 19 year old male-bodied person), and I'm concerned about what it will do in regards to dieting.

Along with shifting fat distribution, the hormones will increase the amount of fat in body in general as well. What I was wondering is if I should eat less and excercise more in order to compensate for this inevitable weight gain or if I should eat more because my body will require more energy during the distribution process. I'd rather not restrict my body too much, but I also would prefer to not have my diet destroyed.

Any relevant advice would be appreciated...

Hi there, welcome to CC.

Understanding your question, I don't believe you should eat less.

One question I do have is this?  What is your body type now?  Are you trying to lose weight currently or just concerned as to your question.

our study has focussed on oestrogen in female bodies..... basically it facilitates fat distribution ...

I do not think eating more is wise - oestrogen will change the way you metabolise food - and fat wil be more readily stored instaed of "passing through".

This is really a question for others who have been in your situation - either your Dr or a specialised website/support group.

However you have sparked my interest too........ I will see what I can find..
Interesting response sesoz, (I like it).

My concern is this.

Male's shouldn't consume less than 1500 calories.  There is metabolism to consider.

Thoughts?
I was not thinking in terms of intake - just in terms of oestrogen and fats!

I agree males should not eat less then 1500 a day, and 19 year old males should eat more, since they continue to grow until the age of 22-24.

ihatelettuce has not provided any of this info - hence the suggestion to talk this through with his Dr.....
Agreed..

I guess I'm stuck on allowances etc.  He states that he "prefer to not have my diet destroyed".

As you stated too, he hasn't responded with his stats.

Thanks for your input.

High regards.
