How much do hormones affect weight loss? If your hormones are all wacky and you don't have cycles at all (yet), could that contribute to a lack of weight loss? I had a baby 5 months ago and I still have not had a period, plus I did not go back on birth control. I have either been pregnant or on the pill for the past 5.5 years of my life. Could my body just be trying to sort itself out or am I using it as an excuse?? :(

My sister had a baby 3 years ago when she was 28, did not get her period either for like a year and also said that she couldn't lose weight, although she ran 4 a few times a week and tried some crash diets (such as eating nothing but rice during the week and then she would binge on the weekends, which probably contributed to her not losing weight).
Anyway, her doctor told her that it's because of her hormones. They're supposedly the reason why she gains weight easily but hardly gets it off. If it's true, then I guess you're not alone. Don't think that was of any help, la la la.....

hi benjmum, yes i'm certain that hormones play a big role in weight loss (if they are out of balance). Do you have any medical info about what your hormones are doing, lLike a blood test? It could be useful to know exactly where they're at. What do you think?
I lost quite a bit of weight .. and then lost my periods as well ..
Should I be worried? Is my body telling me I lost too much? Or is it a normal part of weight loss?

if you lost it too fast yes or you might not have enough fat in your body
I agree with vamika, it's about fat.....in my opinion, loss of periods is very heavily related to how much fat you eat.
Do you have a very low fat or fat free diet? If so, you'll likely have a prob with periods and that's where i'd start looking to find the problem. Women need to eat some fats (doesn't need to be too much, but at least some). Your body and mind with thank you. ;-)

Just to clarify, is normal for a woman to take a year or longer to start her period after having a baby, especially if she is nursing.
It's not normal for your period to stop if you have not had a baby. It indicates that you are severely obese or underweight. Either way you are not at a healthy weight. Period.
Your body requires estrogen for your cycles to happen and be regular. If your period stops, it's time for a visit to the doc.
Anyway, yes, hormones play a big role. I'm still nursing and weight loss is MUCH slower.
