after a horrible weekend of eating?

after a horrible weekend of eating how long did it take you to get back to your normal weight?

I think the norm is about 2 to 3 days if the scale has jumped.  Realize that it is probably not all fat;  a lot of what the scale says is water that is being retained.  You may have gained a little weight, but just like gaining muscle, gaining fat is a slow process which is usually more of being victim to a pattern of overeating over a period of time.

Most people advise drinking a lot of water and in general try not to overcompensate.

Good luck :)

yeah on monday morning i was up 4 pounds (no way i ate that many calories. not even a pounds worth) so im trying to be patient. its hard ha. but yesterday i was down two pounds! YAY! and today i was the same as yesterday. so hopefully tomorrow it goes down some more.

I over ate this weekend and weighed at work on Monday and was up 3lbs. So I just started counting the calories and worked out and when I weighed in this morning at work I was actually a .4 down from last week.  So I am so glad I was able to pull myself back on track so easy, not like the past. I really like this site.

I hope I achieve similar results as you all did.  I made my target goal 5 days ago, so I treated myself to a day of wine, cookies, etc and took in over 4000 calories.  Since that day, I have gained less than a pound, but I am over my target date and am not losing weight, even though I am exercising at least 800 calories off daily and keeping my calorie intake to around 2000.  It just seems odd to me that one day completely threw off my slow but steady weight loss regimen.  I suppose somehow I need to jumpstart my BMR by getting a really high protein breafast in--but I thought I was doing that already.

I really think that alot of things go into whether you can cheat on the weekends or not.  When I was in my 30's I could do that and it never knocked my diet off stride.  But now, well into my 50's I cannot do that, and it takes me just about all of the next week to get back on track.  So, I don't think this answer is going to be so clear cut for everyone.  There are several different things to factor in like metabolism, age, time of the month, activity levels, disabilities, & water retention due to salt overloads, etc.

My weight fluctuates 3 - 5 lbs in a single day, which isn't too bad for being being 215 - 220 lbs. In my experience, weighing yourself every day will only lead to disappointment.  You will expect to see changes that just wont be visible, especially if you are losing weight at a healthy rate of 1lb/week.

My recommendation is to only log your weight once a week. The best time would probably be on Friday morning, after being good over the week. This way, you can see the progress in your weight chart.  You may still weigh yourself on a daily basis (it is kind of hard to resist), but the documentation will at least have a baseline and be easier to see if progress is being made or not.

My weight fluctuates about the same as yours, 2.5 to 4 or 5 lbs difference from morning to evening.  I also love your suggestion to weigh in & record weight once a week.  I was so guilty of weighing myself even a few times a day, I think I got OCD about weighing myself LOL..great suggestion!Smile

My problem is a horrible weekend of eating usually goes hand in hand with lots of booze and *gasp* cigarettes too, which makes it hard to work out in the beginning of the week.  It usually takes me till about wed morning or so to get back on track to 'normal weight' and feel competent to actually have a good workout again.

Ugh, some things need to stop...

give yourself a break zrex. all things in moderation.

I agree with you about the weighing. Once a week or every other week is plenty. If you check daily, you will drive yourself nuts!

I usually weigh in on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. And this morning I was up two pounds. I find it hard to believe that I overate that bad when I thought I had kept track. How quickly does it bounce back if it is just water weight gain? I hope so!

You could be retaining water, if you have had too much salt lately.  The word is to drink alot of water that helps the body release the water that it is holding on to.  If you don't get enough water the body holds onto it.  Should only take a few days to correct if it is just water.  There again depends on how quickly your body releases it.  Lots of water everyday is the best thing.  8 full glasses sipping on it all day long, not really guzzling it, but more like sipping it.  I hope that helps you.

just a little note for pilgrim dude , its the food as a reward thats going to work against you , having lost over 75pounds and kept it off now for over a year I had to try get rid of the attitude that food was a reward for losing weight , it just creates huge problems with maintenance. good luck with everything

Congrats elacon on your weight loss!  Way to go!  Smile

Oh, at my worst time it took me months because I had to retrain myself. I have an overeating problem that i'm trying to hurdle over. In the best of times it only took me a day to get back on track and like three days to get back down.
