I think the horse hates me...
So like they say, "if you fall off the horse, just get back on the saddle". Well, I've fallen off the horse for the fifth time in the past week or so and I've got this feeling that me and the horse don't get along.
Every day I start with eating healthy and limit my calories, but as night hits I just continually eat. Not binge; just eat. Until I'm a good 1000 calories over. I'm never hungry after my meals, but for some reason... I just don't seem to have a handle on it.
Currently, I'm a senior in college (yay stress), and generally need to stick to my room to do mass amounts of readings and research. Are there things I can do that will keep me out of the fridge? What works for you as an individual?
I don't want to give up - I want to be a healthy, good weight, and down a couple pants sizes. But this horse keeps kicking me off.
I know just what you are talking about. My hardest time is in the evening. I can go all day and do so good with my eating and then at night I want to eat everything in sight. You dont have to give up, just change some of your habits. If you are stuck in your room, then dont have any snack food in there to be able to grab and eat. Keep only enough in the fridge for each night if you have to and keep it healthy, apples, carrot sticks and maybe some sugar free gum to chew. Plan your days and nights out and journal how you did and what works and doesnt work each day. Be honest with yourself and learn from your mistakes. ( I cannot have any snacks in the house or I will eat them! ) Stay away from all fast food restaurants or take out, fattening and unhealthy. I look for all low calorie snacks if I do need to snack. Once you start eating only healthy food, you begin to hate putting unhealthy food in you. Reading books on the subject really help you understand what is happening and how to control and change it. Just keep trying till you find something that works for you...
try coffee or tea to surpress appetite, and when you feel the urge to snack, eat a bowl of oats (no sugar) with milk or yoghurt.
Obviously don't keep any calorie-dense, unhealthy snacks around, and actively search out low-calorie foods that you can safely gnaw on as much as you want :)
unstick yourself from your room. go get some exercise. bring your books to the library and study there instead, away from the food (pack some carrors or something to keep your energy up)
exercise reduces stress and you'll be buring calories. good luck
I'm the same when it comes to the weekend, I stick to everything during the week then all I want to do is eat at the weekend :/
But what i really find helps is tea (green / red), water and low calorie jelly. Definitely allowing treats too because if i feel i can't have something, I will want 20 of whatever it is! But they have to be treats in small packets!
Just as german12 mentioned if you plan out what you're going to eat, treats included and have no other temptations in the house, it helps a lot. :)
What helps me is to brush my teeth, in my mind it signals that am done eating for the day. So after dinner I'll have a piece of fruit for dessert with a cup of green tea, then I brush my teeth and call it a day. I hope this helps.
Try a little exercise w/ me.....instead of the horse hating you and overpowering you, what if the horse was a Shetland Pony, or better yet, a Great Dane. Not so huge now eh? You can control a pony or a dane. You are bigger than the 'horse'. If that doesnt work, shrink the horse down to miniature toy size in your mind. Remember Barbie and her horses? That size of stallion. Something insignificant that can be CONTROLLED easily. It kind of changes the fear of the 'beast' doesnt it?
Visualize something you can overpower.
There are nights when I feel like I'm going to start eating when I'm not hungry, due to boredom, or just wanting to taste things. My strategy is to brush my teeth and put in my retainer, and occupy myself with something that requires full attention, like practicing my ukulele or playing Zelda, haha.
Brushing my teeth really does help though. Kind of tells my body that we're done eating for the day.
