Hot cereal lovers - take notice

Quote  |  Reply

Just thought I'd share my absolute favorite!!!    Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled hot cereal.   Made with 100% whole grains - whole rolled wheat, rye oats, flaxseed and barley.  It's only 120 cal for 1/3 cup dry (makes over a cup after cooking), and has 5g fiber.

It's REALLY yummy - I think it has more taste and definitely more texture than oatmeal.

I eat it as a my pre-workout breakfast, and I add 1 Tbsp of peanut butter (which makes it super creamy) and 2 tsp of brown sugar or honey.  Which makes it total 250 calories.

And it's really reasonably priced - it costs from $2.19-$2.39 depending on where you get it from, and it makes 12 servings.   I've found it at Whole Foods, Target and even my local AP supermarket.

Oh Thank you for that! I'll add that to my shopping list and check it out. I love me some oatmeal. Laughing

Add 1/4 cup of Bob's wheat bran to this and double the fiber content for only 30 extra calories.

CURSE YOU, products I cannot ship overseas! (or could but it'd cost me a lot).

I love barley flakes as a porridge grain. :] They're a sort of milky taste.

Have you tried Bob's Red Mill 10 grain?? It's wonderful!!

Is it similar to Red River?

... do you get that in the States?

Do you know how much iron is in this?  I have been trying to increase my iron intake because it was too low and usually get most of my iron from breakfast.

according to the nutritional label on the link, 6% of the RDA of iron, but it doesn't say how many mg.   I keep mine in a cereal container and toss the bag, so I can't look at the real label for you.
