Do '5 hour energy' and '6 hour energy' bottles work?
Eat well, get good nutrition, proper sleep, exercise, laugh and enjoy your friends and family.
Stay away from energy drinks.

I wanted to try them, and I was wondering; do they give a good energy boost?
Don't use energy drinks. Most energy drinks contain a significant amount of caffeine. Too much. Getting a caffeine high is not the way to get more energy. They also contain mega doses of B vitamins, which will not be used by the body if you get too much. Waste of money. Some contain "questionable" herbs and other supplements. There is no magic fix.
If you are lacking energy ask yourself why? Do you get enough sleep? Are you eating clean/balanced? Do you drink enough water? Get enough exercise? Look for the underlying cause for your lack of energy and fix that instead.
I don't use them often but they do work and you don't get the jitters. Try drinking half the bottle first to see you you respond to it, if you still need more energy take the other half of the bottle.
I tried one once. I was working the early shift and I'd been out partying all night (note that I was pretty chubby back then. Sleep is VERY important!). It tasted like cough medicine and it didn't do anything.
Worse, that extra caffeine makes it harder to get to sleep later.
Energy drinks are basically soft drinks that aren't carbonated - sugar-water + caffeine. You'd be better off eating something or at least having real fruit juice (since that'll pack in some nutrition along with the sugar).
i drank a 5-hour energy once during finals week. I took it at 10 pm and stayed up all night doing an art project. I then ran at 6 am and afterward took a final at 8 am which i aced. I finally fell asleep aroun 4 pm for an hour or so. Not saying they are a good idea, but it worked for me.
I've taken them a couple times. Some Fridays I wake up at 6, work 8-5, then drive 2 hours to visit my friends and go out with them. I can stay awake without them, but I am usually the loser yawning at the bar. They gave me plenty of energy to last through the night, but sometimes it's hard to fall asleep afterwards. And the sleep I do get is not very high quality sleep. For something rare like that, I say they're ok. If you NEED them just to function, you may want to look into a better resolution.
I've never used the "5-hour" ones, but Red Bull helped get me through Tech School. More sleep probably would have been the better option though.
Yes, they give an energy boost. Some contain no sugar.
I use them to ensure I get to the gym and start the ball rolling. Momentum, if you please, then, once you're there they improve your workout.
I used one with about 20 miles to go on an 80 mile ride with 8k feet of climbing. The last portions was "flat", but was in to a brutal headwind and I just wanted to get back to my car. lol. I don't think it worked. I made it to the car without passing out on a side of the road, but I am pretty sure what helped more is drafting behind a big guy like my life depended on it (and I am pretty sure it did lol).

I don't think the 5 hour energy drink has any caffeine in it. It just has a small amount of B complex. If this drink works for you, just take a B complex or a multi-vitamin, its much cheaper. B vitamins are used in energy production so don't take it at night.
