Hey Everyone,

Someone at work dropped of this "30 hour famine" thing on my desk and i've been reading through it and want to do it.

Now there shouldn't be any harm to do it for 30 hours eh?http://www.30hourfamine.org/

I guess the question to ask yourself is why are you interested in doing it?

Some folks fast for religious reason. If you're doing it as a political statement, I suggest looking up information on Google regarding fasting and ways to do it safely.
This is a group that I've lent a hand to in the past.  They've been feeding hungry people all over the  US for over 20 years - started in Seattle I think. Somewhat unconventional - no heirarchy or offical organization structure. They just put their actions where their mouth is day in and day out.  If there's a group near you, I'm sure they'd love for you to lend a hand.

I'm not familiar with the 30hourfamine, but I admire your interest in wanting to get involved and make a positive difference.
I watched the film and it looks wonderful, but I'm not 100% sure exactly how the famine helps.  I'm sure it does though.

Not being a healthcare professional, I would say that 30 hours shouldn't hurt you long term - I've done 25 hour fasts for religious reasons.  Just don't be fooled by your dehydrated weight the next morning!  And when you start eating, just eat a little at a time.

Good for you for wanting to help such a wonderful cause.
I have participated in the 30 hour famine for the past several years. If this is something that you want to do to help raise money and awareness, then do it. If you want to do it because you think that it will help you drop a pound or two, then don't.

If you do decide to do it, remember to stay hydrated. Also, when you eat again, don't over do it on your first meal. It could make you sick.
I participate in 14 hour fasting for 30 consecutive days annually. The only reprecussion I can determine is a bit of dehydration, but that is easily fixed. I havent looked at the film, but will. If you can drink water then I'd say your golden.
It appears that you can drink water. I hope many more like you participate.
i have done the 30 hr famine in the past, and the point of doing it is to raise awareness and money for developing countries. by fasting for 30 hours you are getting a glimpse of what it is like to not eat - something that millions of people in the world face every single day. when i did it as part of a school group, we were faced with "homework", and we learned first hand how it feels to think on an empty stomach. it is very hard to concentrate on math or geography when your tummy is rumbling. our first meal after the 30 hours was rice and water - a staple in many, many countries.

this was a very humbling experience for me, and i learned a lot. if you want to participate, it should be for humanitarian reasons.

you are allowed fluids, but to keep it real - try to stick to water. they don't usually have gatorade on small farms in the middle of sub-saharan africa.
My doctor says it can be healthy to fast, if you make sure that you drink enough water and drink juice if you feel dizzy or weak.

People with diabetes or other problems shouldn't fast though...
