Hourglass
Thought this article about women's figures was interesting: Best Female Figure Not an Hourglass
I'm an hour glass. D:
Funny that only, what, 7% of the female population is an hourglass, but I hear over and over people stating that they happen to be hourglasses.
That said, I'm an hourglass. xD
I hate it.
I'd kill to be a pear, though. Those hips! Small, firm chest. Sigh!
Fellow hourglasses, do you /like/ your curves? Non-hourglasses -- do /you/ like your shape?
Yep - and I like it! And so does my hubby! Wouldn't change it.. like looking like a woman!
38-28-38

guess I don't look like a woman then...
I haven't really taken my measurements but I thought of myself as a subtle hourglass, I lack a lil in the hips. I woukld like a tiny waist but am not going to go into any extreme way to get it so I try to love what I have.
Edit word correction

i'm a hourglass, a larger one but still an hourglass, lol. i love my hips and thighs and love that i'm not just straight up and down and even though i need to reduce my waist by some inches i still have definition btwn my waist and hips and it makes clothes look better. i don't mind it at all...
What's the definition of an hourglass?
I'm 36-28-38 and have always thought I was a pear, but not sure now!
I would love to be a pear too. But I was a hour glass but after my son I gained weight in my love handles so it looks like a dysfunctional hour glass..but I noticed when I lose weight, my waist begin to look defined again.
I wish i was a pear so bad. I even thought about getting surgery for my stomach, love handles and arms so I can look small up top.
According to my measurements, I think I'm an hourglass...?
33-24-33
I can't think of why I wouldn't want an hourglass figure to be honest....

And yes, I'm an hourglass, don't have the exact measurements, but my chest and hips are bigger and my waist is convex. Even when I gain weight I maintain that basic shaper, just a bigger version of it, which I don't like. I want to be the small hourglass in a game of boggle, not the big hourglass on Days Of Our Lives! Screw any "scientists" trying to tell me it's bad.

Haaaaa!
I personally am a thin pear now. My boobs are GONE, but I still have curvy hips and a booty. I'm quite pleased with it. I used to be SO jealous of boobs...and I still have to acknowledge that being flat-chested will never allow me to be the ideal of feminine beauty...but honestly, now I am happier without them. I look seriously athletic...and when I see those big chested girls jogging on the treadmill...oh, it hurts to watch! Boobs may be lovely, but they are impractical and I would rather be the way I am!
I do like having a small waist, though. My hips and narrow shoulders are enough to give me a feminine look...and I'm glad I don't have enough testosterone floating around in me to make me look sturdier. I'm as sturdy as I need to be!

Study that the statistic is based on - the chart on page 4.
Definition of an hourglass.
I am an hourglass with pear tendencies, it doesn't bother me one way or another as I don't care if anyone besides my husband finds me attractive - he seems to like me well enough though. Anyhow, I think the study in the OP is a little frivolous and from what I am reading, she is drawing conclusions on questions not posed in her research - not good science. I need to find the study to see her method as the press release doesn't make it clear whether her research tested the androgen levels of the women she looked at, or if she is speculating on why she found an increased WtH ratio. The study isn't up on their website that I can see though.
GTFOH
I'm a hourglass shape, and there is nothing wrong with it. This is the way god made me. Now! I can see if people was paying money out of the butt to get an hour glass shape, but I was born with this shape.. I can't change it if I could. I'm 36-30-44, and I'm still working on my shape. I'm a large hourglass shape, and well blessed.. I was bigger than that, and it was no shape.. Just a BLAH!
40DD-42-56. I was a hot mess... They say.. Thin is too thin, and thick is too thick. Well, what do they want? I'm a pear, and I'm happy with it. We can not change what God has made.. This is my shape.. I mean really. I'm not out there getting A** inplants or Boobs that are a size 36KK. I'm just being me. I'm a hourglass, and I love it. I was born this way. They are just going to have to get over it.. Best Female Figure- NOT AN HOURGLASS.
Well, Maybe I used to be an hourglass, 36-24-36 but since my kids I'm 38-30-39. I soo wish I could get back to the 24 inch waist, maybe when I drop the 30lbs I have left. I think that if your bust and hips are somewhat the same that's an hourglass. *shrugs*
And I love being an hourglass. I weigh more than most people would guess, but I've got boobs and a butt so the weight is taken up just where hubby likes it.
edit: oh, I just saw the "definition" now I've got to get my calculator out to see just what I am.![]()
re edit: so I missed the hourglass by 2 inches. I guess that makes me an apple. Good thing my new gym opens in 10 days.![]()
I'm a pear. From a body building perspective it sucks because in order to get my hips to a nice, proportional weight I'm a skeleton up top. For curves I really don't mind it (except I want my boobs back. This is entirely unfair).
One thing I want to point out is that pear shaped women have a higher incidence of endometriosis. All that "fertile" estrogen is *not* a good thing. It's not a cold hard fact but it is something interesting to think on. (Got it from a book, not an internet link. The title is something like "What you should know about Endometriosis." I don't have it with me to make sure.)
^ and I've heard that apples have a higher incidence of some other type of cancer. I don't think anyone is safe. *_*

I came up with your waist being 78% of your bust with 75% or less being hourglass. I'd say you're still an hourglass.
If I did offend anybody by my post, I do apologize. I want to throw it out there that I can easily admire the hourglass figure on another female, but have trouble appreciating it on myself.
On a side note, I was incorrect about my 7% stat. It’s actually 8%, which are quite a few women in the grand scheme of things. Here is the link where I got this information: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-bri tain/the-shape-of-things-to-wear-scientists-i dentify-how-womens-figures-have-changed-in-50 -years-516259.html It’s pretty much a summary of the link p0nda posted. Diet-blog.com discusses it briefly in a few posts, as well.

phew, that's a relief hee hee, I'm still hitting the gym hard when it opens, I haven't been able to lose anything for a few months, too much crap going on in my life recently.
As far as I know, I'm plagued by the dreaded apple shape: 39-29-37
I feel so alone.
As much as I've worked and strived for one, I've never found hourglass figures to be all that attractive on other women; I think that pears are a hundred times more appealing. I would happily trade my F-cups for lovely, voluptuous hips, or at least something resembling a butt =(
