Not in the house
Nuts/ PB. Try to get a serving size when I do my shopping but they are too tempting to any longer keep a can/jar at home. Im quite disciplined so its particularly obvious how it pulls me in for more, more.
Bananas, also healthy and usually get one too with my nuts on grocery day but I dont buy a bunch because I will be 'on' them until there gone.
Living solo, Ive no need to buy unhealthy items but after my daughter left, I dont remember anything giving me a problem that was left behind until I gave it away or tossed it. Its the stuff I know I can eat but is plays with my portion control.
Reason: Released as sticky
- No Soda Pop
- No Chips
- No Beer (actually, it just ticks me off even seeing it in the store; I'm fine with other alcohol though, I just don't drink it)
- No Ramen (I made myself sick eating it in large amounts as a kid and now the smell makes me sick)
- No Nuts just 'cause I hate them
- No foods that are above 250 calories a serving
- No cookies or cakes or pies (I hate cake and cookies are WAY too tempting 'cause they are so tiny so I think I can eat 50 and nothing will happen, lol and pie just isn't a good idea for me because I know I'll just eat it all by myself)
- No donuts
- No cereal (there isn't one that is good for you and portioned properly at the same time)
- No milk, except for my baby (I hate milk and it's tecture, I'm a Silk Chocolate Soy Milk person)
- No TV Dinner
I'm really picky so I probably have more to add to this list, lol. This is something I battle my family over.
Ice Cream is the devil! I try not to keep it in my house or I will eat it until it's all gone. I just treat myself on occasion, just to satisify the "beast" ![]()
I buy plain almonds from the bulk section (so I don't have a big jar lying around) and I roast them myself with a teensy bit of olive oil and a teensy bit of low cal maple syrup. I LOVE nuts and I buy just enough to eat 10 per day (about 100 cals), as a snack or in a salad. That way I know if I eat them all in one sitting there won't be anymore until my next shopping day!
oh...and I definitely can't be trusted around pretzels!
my weaknesses are chocolate anything (even my baking chocolate chips), ice cream, potato chips, anything with sugar, nachos and salsa, Mmmmm....
If any of this is in the house, it is all I can think about... so it just does not come in the house.
Plus, I am now 2 weeks off dairy, so that is another reason to not buy ice cream or milk chocolate!!
I don't ban foods from my home. If there is something that I enjoy I have it. I focus on keeping my eye on the prize, which for me is a sustainable long term healthier lifestyle.
That being said, I usually eat less of the things that aren't going to help my accomplish my primary health goal. However, if I want an ooey gooey cinnamon roll with icing dripping off of it, I eat it, log it and move on.
If food becomes "bad" or other negative terms while I am losing weight, how will I approach food when I am at my goal? I want to be able to sustain my healthier lifestyle for life so for me learning that I am in control and not my food is important. Moderation and I are becoming great friends.
No bacon,bologna,breakfast sausage, chips,cookies(I buy the ingredients to make them instead of buying a bag)
When I first clicked on this thread, I thought, Oh LOTS of stuff....but when i really think about it, every single one of my "weaknesses" are actually things I have, but are languishing:
-bacon in my freezer, 1/2lb at the very back that's been there for like 6 months
-red licorice, there is some in the glove compartment of my car, likely all hard by now, I bought it about 4 months ago and had just two peices or so
-chocolates. I have some in the freezer that i bought last year, and a box of dark-chocolate covered macadamia nuts that my parents brought back from Hawaii back in February. There is about 1/2 box left.
I am impressed, I didn't realize how much control i am now able to have around former binge foods. Thanks for making me think about that!
I would eat 4 a day if I could.
THINGS NOT IN MY HOUSE =
- ANYTHING PROCESSED (anything in boxes, donuts, cookies, cakes, mac & cheese, etc)
- ANYTHING WITH ADDED SUGAR (sauces, foods, drinks, etc)
- SODA/JUICE/ENERGY DRINKS (with calories)
- FRUIT
- ICE CREAM
- BREAD
- CEREAL
- DAIRY
- NUTS
- PORK
Ice cream. It is my biggest downfall. I can eat a whole gallon in a day. I would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and because I bought ice cream I would have to buy the whipped cream and I would have to finish them off together because if I didn't I would have to buy more.
I love watermelon and strawberries. I keep a lot of frozen fruit and make slushies with them. Just the fruit and water. I love them.
Things I would like to ban from my house but I know I would go out and buy the largest container possible and devour it until I can't move:
-PB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Chex Mix (sweet & salty)
-trail mix (with M&Ms of course)
-Stupid cereal
-Ice cream
-anything packaged and carb aka chips, ritz, crackers, anything I can dip into the PB that shouldnt be in the house lol
-chocolate
seriously though, peanuts and peanutbutter. Gawsh!
Anything which might have elements of hazelnuts - I am allergic.
Icecream and white wine because it gives me migraines
Bananas because I can't stand the smell.
ready made meals- because I believe that cooking is culture! And honestly I've yet to try one which tastes good and is as satisfying as a homecooked meal.
fruit juice- why spend money on liquid sugar when I can squeeze my own fresh orange juce and barmix berries, kiwi, pineapple, mango or passionfruit into it? Much more satisfactory!
Peanut butter because it scares me. However I have made myself a jar of almond nut butter (a) can't buy it in Switzerland and (b) making it myself means I know there are no hazelnuts in there! I love peanutbutter- it's just well I haven't had the courage to buy it in years...
cookies and other baked items, chocolate or chips- when I have them in the house I run the risk of bad binging episodes. I'm working really hard on getting better now and I purposly have healthy snacks like fruit and veggies, rice crackers, dried fruit, almonds and macadamia nuts around instead.
My mother lives just round the corner from me and what I do is- if I bake cookies or buy a block of chocolate or a packet of crisps I leave them at her place. I go check on her everyday before and after work anyway and in the afternoon we'll have a snack together where we have a normal serving size of whatever treat I feel like. This way I get to treat myself without destroying myself.
My aim is to feel secure enough to have my homebaked cookies (which are pretty healthy anyways) in my own cookie jar... but I'm not ready yet.
Right now there is a box of chocolate covered donuts in the kitchen. Before January I would have eaten the entire box as a snack. Now, I don't have even the slightest urge to even open the box and take just a sniff. For me, its usually meat that is a great temptation for me. Especially chicken. Some of you may be thinking, "Well, chicken is great for the protein our body needs to function and it's a low in fat." I agree. That is if you can eat one serving. I struggle everyday to avoid eating large amounts of meat. Just plain meat, no seasonings, no sauces, just naked cooked meat. I can easily down a roast or a whole chicken and not think a thing about it. But since January, I've been able to control my eating habits to avoid that scenario. However, the desire is always there.
it's amazing just how much press 'n seal wrap can deter my cravings.
that's really it though. i mean, i still live home with my parents & brother so they all have what they eat and it's not like i can tell them not to buy certain things anymore. plus, if i ever go a little crazy and overeat something, it's usually some of my food that i pick out myself. my willpower really surprises me sometimes.

I try not to bring any desserts into the house unless there's a party.
I try not buy anything with more than a few ingredients... exceptions are like sauces, dressings.
The food that I have to avoid is bbq fritos. If I buy them I eat the whole bag, I go completely out of control for some reason I have to do it once or twice a year.
i'm a binger, so there are alot of things i can't buy, or if my mom buys, i make her lock it up.
- nut butters
- cereal
- most crackers
- most bread
- bagels
- baked goods
- frozen mango
- jam
- nutella
- chips (tortilla, regular, etc)
- rice cakes
- pretzels
- shredded cheese
- fruit juice
- full-sugar soda
- ice cream
However, I've never been a binge eater so that probably makes it easier for me.
these are things that i try to not keep in the house...although sometimes they do find their way in...
tortilla chips...if i cave and do buy some, ill eat a serving...then get scared and they are off to my office the next morning..
any salty snack food....although pop corn has been in my kitchen recenlty..

luckily i dont have a sweet tooth so although i dont buy any sweets to keep in the house, i dont miss them. i guess im a salty gal..
