House - SPOILER ALERT
Do not read this if you have not seen most recent "House" episode.....

I am sorry to hear Lawrence Kutner will not be part of House any longer. I really liked this character and thought he needed more storylines. It seems like all concerned gave this a lot of thought and the "puzzle" of this character's death is a great storyline for Dr. House since he lives to solve puzzles, it's perfect (and typical of real life suicides) that no one saw this coming and that there is no real explanation (I actually don't like it when stories like this are tied up too neatly, in real life things do not happen that way). The writers interviews suggest that this storyline will profoundly affect the other characters too, which is as it should be. I am intrigued to see how this progresses, even though I will miss Kutner.
Still, with all that said, I am happy for Kal Penn. He has taken advantage of a wonderful opportunity, and made a brave choice to leave a successful show and lucrative career (for now). I wish him well in his new endeavours.
I was so surprised!!!!!
I kept making up excuses - "That's Kutner's roommate!" "They haven't said it's definitely Kutner yet!" "It's a dream!" "House is hallucinating!"
I thought it was an emotional episode. Poor Taub at the end.... he broke my heart.
edit: wrong word
Excellent story. Exactly what we need now and then, a good shake up.
My whole household was PO'ed at the fact that Kutner killed himself, while all agreeing at the same time that if they were going to pull this story line with any of the main characters, it'd be either House or Kutner. We just all couldn't believe it until they hit the funeral scenes, and it finally kicked in. It especially hit when Taub suddenly broke out into tears--I thought that was by far the most emotional moment in the episode, next to a frantic Thirteen leaning against Kutner's bed with blood on her face. It just made his death so real.
I'm still incredibly sad that he died, though =(. I mean, Kutner was my favorite, and if anyone was going to surpass House, it would have been him. He was having a decent chunk of the epiphanies in all of season five. He was such a brilliant doctor. ;_;
I thought it was such a good (if sad) episode. I agree that Taub crying was almost unbearable, but the scene with Thirteen crying "He's cold" while Foreman tried to keep doing CPR was so much worse.
Has anyone been to the online memorial at the FOX website? It has letters from other characters written to him, and is pretty interesting.
I'm sorry but the online memorial is the cheesiest thing I have ever seen in my life.
Also according to wwtdd.com:
KAL PENN – has been hired by the White House as a liaison (wait, what) to help maintain communication between the President and Hollywood. Or to be a binding and thickening agent used in cooking. But probably that first one, the one about talking. (source = ap)
i cant believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sooo didnt see it comin.
woulda preferred to see taub go lol he's my least fave
Taub is interesting. I think the thing about the show is that all the characters are so complete, which makes them complex and interesting. Kutner was probably the least complex of the lot, so writing him as a suicide makes a lot of sense.
I didn't see it coming by a longshot but what a powerful episode. Really looking forward to seeing the continuation of the storyline... but that said, Kutner was my fave too from the team.
*bump* Excellent season opener.
Wonder if House was playing that Doc, even at the end?
I really enjoyed last night's episode. It felt like a sort of quirky, dark movie. I was really happy they showed the worst of his withdrawal during the credits. I was worried they would drag it out half the episode.
Even if he wasn't, he'll probably say he was playing that Doc. I don't think I'm buying the idea of a not-screwed-up House - it's so much of his character and, honestly, why I love the show so much. It will be interesting to see how it plays.
Yeah - he'll withdraw back into House-hood no doubt. Gotta say Hugh Laurie looks really good with his hair short and his beard grown in...yikes!
I too enjoyed the season opener. House having fun with those party guests was vintage House.
I think House was playing the Doc, but I also think House made some realizations about himself. I liked the teasers for next week.
I haven't seen the season opener yet, but I have it tivo-ed! Can't wait to watch it!

I don't think so. The tears when he made love to Lydia, and the fact that he sat without saying a word with the Doc and sought the doc out after Lydia dumped him? Also, the joy on his face just before he smushed the cake?
I think we'll see a lighter House, still messing with people but from a better perspective. I'm hoping he doesn't go back to seeing patients until about halfway through the season and maybe we can explore some more healing, especially with Wilson.

If House withdraws and goes back to his old ways, I'll stop watching the show. I very seriously doubt that he was playing Doctor Nolan after the first half of the episode.
But seriously--if the show refuses to make any sort of commitment to change in any of the characters, especially House after he's gone through this whole ordeal, and House goes back to being a giant jerk with a drug problem, I give up on Fox and will really stop watching. Last season ticked me off so badly, with its just completely erasing the whole plotpoint of Wilson's grief and the damage that should have done to his friendship with House, along with a lot of other things that happened in that season, that I seriously considered not watching season six.
But the opener was awesome. It restored my faith a bit in the writers--I hope House stays mostly fixed. I say mostly fixed, because no one's perfect. Not even House. ;)
House is still going to be a prankster. And he's still going to be blunt and self-centered. I also hope to see some healing of the deeper issues, but I don't want him to lose his character and become a goody 2 shoes either.

I really loved the opener too. But - glad for "normal" House to come back.
And yes, he was quite sexy before but now... RAWR!! Holy hottness, batman.
edit - by "normal" I mean back in the hospital, with Cutty, 13, Wilson and the other characters (as opposed to a patient on the ward -- I was kind of worried for a sec that was going to be the whole season). I was hoping they didn't jump the shark by making House grow a bit on the opener. But I don't think it will, I think he's still going to have enough of the real House left in him while also growing in a positive direction.
Also I loved the character last night that he connected with (can't remember her name but the German actor from Bourne series). Would be kind of cool to see her come back during the season.
I heart this show so much, it's ridiculous. Best thing on TV by far.
Holy Hottness, indeed :)
*bump*
Damn, he really means it. And now he can cook. :)
