Huge Calorie Deficit?
Hey i've got a question for you guys. So I eat a good amount of calories, at least 2200 a day if not more but when i enter all of my exercise into the calculator, the burn estimate is usually around 3000 but occasionally (like today) it will even be 4000!
It's mainly because I do track after school, weight training for pole vaulting at night, and cheerleading in the mornings, plus i'm always running around. I love to go for runs when i'm stressed! It seems like all this activity is adding up to quite a lot of calories burned.
So my question is, even though i'm definitly eating above starvation level, above 1200 that is, by having a huge deficit will my body go into starvation mode? is it okay to have that much of a calorie deficit? What should i do? I have plenty of energy and am not tired or hungry and my weight is stable...i eat whenever i need to. Thanks for everything!
On the other hand... Your name is Jessie, which is how I spell my name. Therefore, that is AWESOME! Lol.
um teens need 1800 cals to stay out of starvation just to let you know and you got to eat more your going to lose weight at a rapid weight which is unhealthy(except for the biggest loser people idk why lol)
I know, why is it always the people who try so hard to lose weight that can't? I'm not losing though and i've been slowly increasing my calorie intake since i've noticed the huge deficit. But track just started last month so i haven't been doing quite this much cardio ever before. I've actually put on two pounds of muscle in the past month. Do you think the calorie burn counter could be off or something?
Not sure how to delete this post...so don't pay attention to it...![]()
Jessie i was wondering the same exact thing. My burn meter was over 3100 yesterday, and i only ate about 2000 calories because that's what CC recommended for me if i am exercising hard.
So i guess if I go above 3000 i should be eating more calories (no more than a 1000 calorie deficit?)
That's what it seems like everyone is saying. But i'm not sure. I'm just trying to figure out if the burn calculator is right or not? Maybe i need to change my activity level. If i'm a student (so i sit a lot from 7:30am to 2:30) but i work out before and after school plus a track workout right after school, what level of activity do you think that is? I think i have it on moderate.
I am in with you guys, dang you eat alot!
I have been eating 1400 calories, for the past week and my burn meter usually says 2400 or something like that. I am now going to try 1600, and see what that does. I havent lost any weight yet thats why. I do exercise. Its confusing. We'll see. Hopefully I dont gain weight!
I also question the burn meter!

If you're under 21 the CC calculator is not particularly accurate. If you're getting more than an hour of regular exercise most days of the week you'd classify as 'very active' in CC terms and, even then, you'd still have to add another 200-300 cals to any recommendation that came back to compensate for being under 21.
Even is someone isn't technically 'starving' they can easily become 'malnourished' on relatively high calorie-intakes. If your energy intake is too far below your energy needs, malnutrition is a very real possibility.
I don't think so. I have a big deficit too, and the pounds are still gradually coming off. Don't worry too much about it, but you can boost your calorie intake if you really feel like you need to.
