Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k I have a huge problem with morning eating...
I tend to binge in the morning and not eat much else the rest of the day. What are some breakfasts and tips for me to not binge in the morning? I eat waay more than half my calorie allowment in the morning and its really getting to me how I allow myself to do that. I'm also vegan too so it really limits my options for a healthy FILLING breakfast. I don't have basically any money either. I'm a college student. I wake up at like 5-6 in the morning starving... eat a breakfast... then I usually eat again around 9-10. I've had a good 1300 calories today. I'm gonna go work out like a fiend today and have a super light dinner to cancel it out. I tend to do that a lot. How do I beat this horrible eating pattern? This is my last week of waking up at the ass crack of dawn for classes. My first class every day next semester starts at 11 so it should be a lot better. Plus I intend to work out in the mornings on those days as well. But how do I help control my binging behavior?! it suuucks! Everything i try never works and it's quite discouraging!

Hiya xx,
I read your profile and saw your pictures, and honestly, you look ok to me!!! If I were you, if you're hungry - eat. Listen to your body. Keep counting cals and tracking what you are eating, but, especially being a vegan, make sure you have a well balanced nutrition plan. Don't worry, you are young, and it looks like you are pretty active, I think your body will seek it's natural weight if you are eating healthy and exercising.
Also, being a young woman of child bearing age, look into just what nutrition your body requires. For instance how you treat your body now, will determine how suseptible you might become to osteoporosis years from now.
If you can, sign up for a nutrition class at your school, and take step aerobics if they offer it. Aerobics class is tons of fun!!!

The thing is... I'm super active. Work out almost every day with weights and I do 1 hour of eliptical and run 6 miles almost every day/every other day. I'm a nutrition freak and all that jazz... I just have a horrible time controlling my eating!
Oatmeal works best for me. Fills me up instantly. Just a little leaves me full longer than more of any other breakfast I have. Try some (made with water to keep it vegan) and some fruit too (apples seem the most filling for me). Good luck!
When I eat a light dinner I usually wake up starving in the morning. Maybe if you can try to eat more calories later in the day, especially after working out, you won't be as hungry in the morning.
oatmeal works for me too, i add a cut up banana on top
or I have kashi go lean mixed with dannon light and fit yogurt with a cut up banana on top. yumm!

I saw this on the news this morning and it said that they did two studies and had women eat an entire bowl of pasta as they normally would and on average they ate about 620-650 calories in 9 minutes. Then they had another group of women who were asked to chew at least 15x's per bite. These women ate fewer calories (about 550-560) in about 20 minutes and said that they enjoyed there food much more. I thought it was a little interesting. Also plan on spending that much time on eating and that may help it too.
in the mornings i have about 1 cup of special k fruit and yogurt or special k vanilla almond with a plate of fruit ( apple slices, grapes, a few banana slices) this fills me up completely and its only about 200 calories!!
yeah i think i need to pace myself when eating... lol i always get comments on how fast I eat!
I just wanted to say that I think you are seriously gorgeous and that I love your tats!
Thank you so much! :D
i eat a ton in the am too. but 1300 cals seems likea lot without knowing what its from.
typicaly i eat go lean crunch (YUM) and then a few hrs later i might have egg whites and turkey (low cals but fills ya up) and then an apple later one. I eat a huge lunch too and by dinner im never that hungry. its all about what works for you. honestly. maybe try higher nutrient, lower cal foods (yogurt vs muffins, whole grain toast over waffles etc). its hard in college esp if youre eating at a dining hall but just be more concerned on your choices not what time of day you're eating them.

Seems to me, working out as hard as you do and just being active in general (regardless of workout) that you should be eating more than you do. Try eating a larger dinner because you still have to make up for those calories you burn, and it sounds like you burn quite a lot!!! It sounds like a vicious cycle - big breakfast because you're hungry, work out vigorously (makes you hungry), don't eat a big dinner - trying to compensate for large breakfast and causes you to be hungry in the morning. At dinner, eat the calories you burned working out!
