Nike has been running a 10k event for the last couple of years. This year the Human Race 10k challange is bigger than ever.

On the 31st of August 2008, you can take on the world in a 10k like no other. A 10k where every step counts, no matter how fast, slow, short or long. A 10k where a million runners will celebrate human potential. And you'll be proud to say you ran the day the whole world ran. Nike says Just Do It... so do I.

If you know anything about me, you know that a lot of what happens is because of what you choose to do. So, like myself, choose to run a 10k on Sunday. Run where you are. Find your own 10k and run it. Let us know what you are going to do. Then come back and let us know what you did.

Check out nikeplus if you are interested in joining any challenges and events nearby where you are.

I had read advertisements for the Human Race in a couple of different magazines and looked at an in-store ad for the race at The Finish Line. 10K. Well that's a lot further than I like to run. The last time I've ran any distance further than maybe 400m was over 15 years ago on a running track in my old college gym (I think I only ran a max distance of one mile then).

I went on a jog/walk with my wife a couple of days ago (for about 30 mins) and the thinking in my head is that I can do 10k. From the end of our driveway to the crossroad of our street and back to the driveway is 10k, so I plan to join the masses on Sunday and run my first 10k.

I don't know how long it will take. I know that my legs are going to kill me. I won't get any entry t-shirt or completion medal, but the benefit of finishing something will be the prize this time.

Well. I didn't join the masses after all. Not a failure, just a bit of disappointment. I did get outside for short millage. I should have gotten up early for the run instead of letting time slide by and opportunity present itself for an excuse to overlook the challenge.

I plan to still do the run. Just won't be the same this time. Argh.
