hummus?
What the heck is it? What does it taste like?
It's mashed up chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice... probably some other stuff.
As for what it tastes like... it tastes like hummus - I don't think there's really an equivalent. Try it on carrot sticks - yummy.
I grocery shop on Friday nights - less crowded... a LOT less. Or Saturday or Sunday mornings if I'm going to the grocery store right by my apartment. The one I go to on Fridays is like trying to go to Super Walmart - always a zoo (it's not walmart - i refuse to shop there). So I'll pick some up Friday night. I'm sure Wegmans will have it.
Wegmans has everything.
I like the roasted red pepper flavor and the garlic flavor the best. Plain is okay, but....the others are better!
It is a savory spread made from garbanzo beans and a good protein source. Dip raw veggies, spread on crackers, or use as the "meat" in a sandwich.
Here is my recipe for an easy, lowfat version (serving size is 1/4 cup):

Enjoy!

^ This.
They're just always so darned crowded. If it's not late at night, I go to Tops.
It is a Middle Eastern dip/spread. The main ingredients as stated are Chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans), tahini (a sesame paste), olive oil and lemon juice blended until smooth. From there the flavors are endless. I love the roasted red pepper with sundried tomatos. But the possiblities are endless.
It is high in protein and vitamins and fiber. It is great as a dip for veggies or chips (esp pita chips), or as spread for sandwiches.
read labels as some are high in salt

Is that the La Sabra brand? Their roasted garlic is fantastic - has the dollop of garlic on top that you mix in.
I thought the roasted red pepper was a bit bland - my favorite flavor of theirs is the Chipotle.
You can make hummus at home very easily by using a food processor. I use my chickpeas, tahini (found by the Asian/Middle Eastern spices), lemon, olive oil, red pepper flakes, and garlic. Yum! Making it at home you can regulate the sodium content, because often times store bought hummus is really high in sodium. :)
Good luck!
I make mine really garlicky and put cumin in it too. And top with parsley and hungarian paprika. Good stuff.
Sounds like it's easy to make. I'll probably buy it the first time to see if I like it (sounds like I will... the name just sounds gross lol) and then branch out and try to make the stuff.
Sabra Supremely Spicy is the best!!!!

The Sabra garlic hummus is terrific. Like to dip it with celery or jicama. I've got some in my fridge right now.

I think that's a good idea, and yes - it's very easy to make. I'm not sure that it's strictly hummus anymore if you do this, but you can also swap out the kind of beans. I love black bean hummus. Okay, I also love hummus made with chickpeas, but you catch my drift.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who simply does not like hummus. Although, I've only tried plain.

And, I feel like I'm the only person in the whole world who HATES yogurt. Ha! If you like garlic, maybe try the hummus with garlic; it has a little more flavor. And, by the way, I know lots of people who don't like hummus.
It's definitely "different." Took me a while to warm up to it, myself.

I was in Israel this summer with a whole group of people- everyone always going on and on about their love for hummus. Gosh! Haha.
