Hummus...without pita?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, everyone,

I am trying to control my carb intake, and my love for hummus is making that next to impossible! I was wondering what else I could eat my hummus with. I'm thinking maybe carrots or celery. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

any "dippable" veggie will work:

cucumber spears
zuchinni spears (or chips)
snow peas
snap peas
green beans (if you can't eat them raw, just steam them briefly)
Broccoli
Cauliflower
pepper (green or red or yellow or orange)
celery
carrot

Wow, thanks for all of the ideas! That sounds great!

well coach mentioned it already, but I love eating hummus with cucumbers :)

I have roasted red pepper hummus with Lightly salted rice cakes( 35 calories per cake). I also have a tablespoon on my salads with lemon juice in place of dressing. I hope this helps!

my bf eats hummus on a finger. some of you may be familiar with its related (and delicious) snack, peanut butter on a finger.

as long as you don't swallow your finger it is 0 added cals. :)

I like to have hummus on a baked potato. I suppose that's a carb, but it's not one that sets me off to eat more, like bread or crackers.

Tonight I used sliced mushrooms to dip with my Hummus, the whole box was 60 calories and mushrooms have protein too! Also they have a nice consistency comparable to chips.

Side note: Tribe Jalapeno and Tribe Chipotle hummus are outstanding!

Red Pepper slices are awesome with hummus and also low carb tortillas yumm!

I like hummus with lunch meats

I'm another cucumber eater with my hummus. Won't eat it any other way :) mmm hummus.

I make hummus and turkey lettuce wraps: take a large piece of lettuce, spread it with a thin layer of hummus, add a slice or two of turkey and then any other veggies (I usually use sprouts).  Really, really good and filling :)

i love eating hummus with cucumber, celery and carrot sticks, it's the best dip in my opinion. sometimes i even mix light cream cheese and hummus and it's AMAZING.

I definitely like it on zucchini best! Snap peas are great, too. But, zuchini is best ion my opinion. The consitancy is just a little bit firmer than cucumber but with a taste that goes a bit better with the hummus, I believe. (:

I loved your suggestions.

I haven't actually tried this yet, but I am considering making an egg salad type thing with hummus instead of mayo.  It might be horrible or it might be amazing - probably worth a try though :)

I use it as salad dressing on salad

Yeah, raw zucchini works really well, as do raw mushrooms. they both have a chewy texture that is more like bread and complements the hummus well.

I eat hummus with Melba Snacks...they are like a toasted bread..hard cracker...very good. 5 crackers are only 50 calories and with the hummus it's equals about 100 calorie snack.
