hummus is fairly simply..just play with the ingredients until you get a combo you like

-olive oil

-lemon juice

-tahini

-garbanzo beans

-garlic

Of course you can use any kind of beans, flavorings, additions you want...

also, google is your friend.

Hi,

I make it as follows:

1 tin of chickpeas

juice of 1 lemon

1tbsp tahini

1 clove garlic

1 green chilli

Olive oil

Water

black petter / salt to taste

Whiz all the ingredients together, I drizzle in a little olive oil and then use water to achieve the desired consistiency - saves on calories

Thanks, I appreciate it!

to the basic recipes you can add (to make them a little different)

  • tbsp of curry powder, or
  • roasted red pepper, or
  • hot peppers

or a combo of those

Less a hummus recipe than a hummus manifesto ... but it's so, so true:

(and, yes, she does actually talk about how to make it Laughing )

After much searching and experimenting, here is what I think is the best hummus recipe out there:

  • 1 cup garbanzo beans
  • 1 small jalapeno
  • 3 tablespoons tahini
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Blend in a food processor, adding some of the bean juice if it's too thick.  This makes 8 servings; I usually make it in batches of 4 or more because everyone just LOVES it.  Play around with the jalapeno to your desired spice level.

In order to cut calories heres what I do: I buy a commercial hummus from the store and then add ingredients to cut the calories. I add a can of garbanzo beans or whatever beans you feel like, a little of the juice from the can, lemon juice, garlic powder and the best of all I add lots of roasted red peppers from a jar. It's fantastic.

In addition to the basics, I add a drained roasted red pepper, an ounce or two of feta cheese, ground cumin, and a pinch of cayenne pepper (a little goes a very long way with that stuff.) The feta adds a bit more fat, but the taste is absolutely worth it.
