I hate being called hun. To me it's something old and/or married people should call each other. I especially hate it when people I barely know use it, or some guy who likes me, or friends. Also anything like sweetie and babe is just blech. I wouldn't even want my bf to call me these names, firstly I'm just not into girly/cutesy names, I'd rather something more original/thought of just for me.

Anyone else have a pet name/term of endearment you don't like?

i hate "hun" too =/

it sounds concided (sp)...it just doesnt sound right to me at all. its an annoying word lol [=
BABY.  I swear to whoever, if anyone ever calls me "baby", "babe", or anything similar I will wrench a spork into your eye sockets!!

I let Alex get away with "baby cakes" but even he rarely calls me that, and it's usually just to tick me off.

I call him "Cuppy" though.
I hate it when sales people call me "young lady".  I'm 65, gray hair, wrinkles, a lifetime of experience, and proud of it.  I don't need to be patronized.
oooooooooooo i dont like "babe" either but "baby" i like.

Oh yeah I'm old enough to be called ma'am now, blech lol.

I don't like terms of endearment much either.  This one guy insisted on calling me Beautiful all the time.  Not my bf.  But wanted to be.  So it made me very uncomfortable.  Also don't like cutie, baby, honey, etc.  They make me feel objectified, or like I'm supposed to be some complacent, submissive female.  I realize that most people don't mean it that way.  It's a struggle.
I've been called ma'am since I was 18!  People tell me I still look like I'm 16, and I'm 21.  Why not Miss? I do not look over 35, which is what I believe the cut off is from miss to ma'am.

When someone calls me, sweetie or hun, it's usually because they are from a certain part of the US where that is common place.  It really doesn't bother me, however, it does catch me off guard slightly.

I can tell the difference between someone being weird/sleezy with their "pet" names.  Rare thing for me personally.
I hate when women my age call me hun, like when I am cashiering at my job and some 20 year old calls me hun, i just want to reach across the register and pop em one!
"mama" or "momma" I can't stand it. I would never let a bf call me his "mama". I really can't stand to hear it in the lyrics of popular songs today. Why would any woman want their bf to call them "mama"?   Why?  why why why why!

hahah no ****. If my boyfriend ever called me that i would probably leave the house for a while hah.

I can't stand being called young man.
i like being called "hun" ... it makes me laugh ><

i hate it when people call me ''big guy''

thanks for the info.now i know to ask first.

I used to be offended by hun, honey, sweetie, sugar, etc. etc.  No one used those terms where I grew up.  And I mean NO ONE.

Then I moved to New Orleans (talk about culture shock - I was from the NW).  Everyone down there uses those terms all the time, even with complete strangers and they truly don't mean a thing negative by it.  They'd probably think it was rude NOT to use a term like that.  It took me a while to get over my negativity about the whole thing, but by the time we moved away I thought it was charming and even sort of missed it.  I guess it's just perspective.

I don't get the whole 'mamma' thing either.

Ditto!  Hun I can handle and its sounds funny but cute to me that people use it.  Ma'am hurts.  I dont ever feel I'll ever be old enough to be called ma'am.  Miss is nice and polite, ma'am is 'your old'.
I forgive ma'am only if it's from the southern boys.  I think it's very polite of them, and I like it.

But ma'am almost has this sarcastic twinge by normal people.

I can't even rationalize it, 50% of the population would think I'm 16, the other 26.  Neither is enough for a ma'am.  I even have a young VOICE, so if I'm talking to someone over the phone at work, I still get ma'amed.  Weird.

I've gotten Miss, about a handful of times in nearly 3 years of working at the same place.  And a couple times in public.
Sugar.  I'm not sweet, I'm salty! Grew up in the South so had to get over it...
so what should we call you?????????
My boyfriend and I are absolutely rediculous.
I have 1,000,000+ Nicknames for him I swear.
And none of them being baby or sweetie.

Examples:
Pooh
Pooh bear
Na Nas
bumbler
blanket
New News
and pickle.

How these came about?  I have no clue.  But these names are his pet names, and we both like them.  So I guess that's all that counts, huh?
