Why does hunger cause headaches?
Asked by anonymous on Apr 03, 2009 in Weight Loss

When I don't eat after 6 or 7 hours, I start having a headache.  It disappears after eating.  Why is that?

Answer

It's not uncommon to develop a headache when you are very hungry - the kind of hunger that comes from strenuous dieting or skipping meals.  That kind of hunger is the result of low blood sugar and muscle tension that comes from missing a basic biological substance (food).  On the hunger-satiety scale, that would be a 0-1.  But the good news is, as you saw, hunger headaches are easily prevented and treated by eating nourishing meals that contain adequate calories, protein and complex carbohydrates on a regular schedule.

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
