And no, I am NOT starving myself! I know better than that; my goal is to stay around 1300 or 1400. (Stats: young female, 5'2", 212.) I dragged myself back on the wagon on Tuesday, about 1600 calories.
Wednesday was 1335.
Yesterday was 1485.
Today is 1670 -- it was supposed to be 1340 but just an hour after dinner I was so ravenous I nuked a Lean Cuisine panini.
Yes, I am choosing high-fiber, "filling foods" like whole grains and plenty of vegetables/fruits and healthy fats and lean proteins. Drinking water and Crystal Lite and 2 cups of skim milk a day, limiting caffeine and avoiding soda/juice like the plague. And I'm doing only 15 min of cardio a day, working myself up to more endurance.
Is it because I became used to eating insane amounts of food, like 2100+ calories a day that I'm ready to climb the walls from hunger? How do I stop it? Or at least work through it? Because seriously, if this keeps us I know I'm going to fall right back off this wagon.
Actually, your BMR (or what you burn every day if you were in a coma) is somewhere around 1750. (You can calculate it here: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ ) Which means you're still undereating, even at 1670. Most people recommend not eating under your BMR, so I'd suggest upping your calories. Especially if you feel ravenous!
So I really have been making my body think it's starving? (faceplant)
wow...that number seems really high...(btw, i'm not doubting you, i'm quite ignorant)...what is this 1200 number that everyone keeps quoting then?
1200 cals is the bare minimum a lightweight, sedentary adult female needs just to survive. It's actually the World Health Organisations benchmark for 'starvation'. Some people seem to treat it as a maximum intake and end up grossly undereating as a result.. If you're overweight, reasonably active or under the age of 25 you need rather more than 1200 to lose weight safely and steadily.
Oh my gosh, eat some more please. I would be starving too if I only ate 1300 calories a day. I eat about 1700-1800 calories per day and am still losing 1-2 lbs. per week. Though I do workout and burn about 500-600 extra calories most days with exercise. You're doing great with making healthy food choices but just eat a bit more - you will still lose weight. Good luck :)
Yeah, eat more. If you're still ravenous after eating 'filling' foods, then your body is trying to tell you that you need more. Don't deny it yourself. You might even lose more weight when you eat more... that happens to me sometimes.
