Hunger Headaches...

Quote  |  Reply

How many of you suffer with these? I get them when I eat small meals throughout the day instead of 3 big meals. I find it hard to eat the small meals without getting headaches, but yet I want to boost my metabolism. So there's only win lose. (I am not starving myself btw, 1500 cals)

Eat three big meals a day if that is what works for you. The whole "small meals" thing got somewhat out of control. It doesn't really boosts your metabolism by all that much, if at all. Mainly the idea was just to keep people from over eating for lunch and dinner.

^agree. Also, the 6 meals a day thing isn't necessarily meant as 6 equal meals, just getting some of your calories every few hours to keep from getting hungry and to keep your metabolism a little better. So you could eat 3 400 cal meals, and 3 100 cal snacks. But 3 meals, especially meals close in number of calories, will have a similar effect.

Then why do it? Eat 3 meals if you feel better doing that.

This is why losing weight is so confusing for new comers, there are so many "do this, don't do that" that I never know which is right. Everyone has been hassling me about eating 6 small meals throughout the day instead of my 3 big ones. And whenever you read up on weight loss it says to eat 6 and that it will boost your metabolism.

Everyone is different. I lost 30LB and have maintained it for years. I eat three meals and one snack a day. I count calories and eat clean/balanced. I workout 6 days a week. Cardio 6 weight lifting 3. Other types of calisthenics ab, leg and strengthening work 6 days. There is no magic to 6 small meals. The point is to not let your blood sugar drop to low or go too long without eating. 3 meals and a snack will work just fine. I save my biggest meal for dinner because that is when I am hungry and have the time to sit down and eat. I am like you, 6 small meals would screw me up! Laughing

Figure out how many calories you need a day. Calculate your activity level into that.

If you are not weight training do that. Lift hard and heavy 3 days a week. Not consecutive. Do mixed cardio 5-6 days and keep active in general.

Eat good wholesome foods. Not junk, fast foods, fried foods, simple carbs, sugary foods, diet, sugar free or fat free foods. Don't get your calories from your drinks. Save them for food. Think about everything you put in your mouth. Plan your meals ahead. When you snack make it healthy and worth while. Something that will nourish your body. Fruit, vegetables, lowfat yogurt, natural peanut butter or nuts. Drink plenty of water. Don't "diet" change your diet.
