not hungry for breakfast?

Quote  |  Reply

hello all!

quick question...i usually wake up around 7, shower, and eat breakfast. My question is that when i do eat breakfast, i am typically not hungry (although i do enjoy being able to eat :)  ). Should i wait until i am hungry, which probably would be about an hour or so later? Does it matter to eat breakfast even if you're not hungry?

ALSO, i made a dumb move and bought some peanut butter. i need to remove it from the pantry ASAP..... Undecided

Hey, I am NEVER hungry first thing either! But I had heard that it is better to eat breakfast to kick start your metabolism. But its weird, when i started eating breakfast I often found i was hungrier, sooner!

So I decided to have a really small breakfast ( like one boiled egg) and take another breakfasty thing to have at work ( like some fruit or even some beans :-) ) which seems to hold me until lunch or sometimes tea time.

So i think no, if your not hungry dont force yourself, guess you got to listen to your body! Just eat as soon as you are. As long as you dont leave it too long.

Mmmm peanut butter!

I used to never eat breakfast...or lunch either, for that matter.  Now, I keep oatmeal in my desk and fix a cup as soon as I get to work.  Then I read that you should eat something within 30 minutes of waking to jump start your metabolism for the day, so I started eating a small handful of Kashi Crunch with my morning coffee, right after I get out of the shower, and then oatmeal at work.  I'm losing, so I guess it's working.  By the way, I eat peanut butter sandwiches for lunch a couple times a week.  I don't measure to make sure I'm only eating 2 tablespoons, but I spread the PB very thinly and use double fiber wheat bread.

Eating breakfast, lunch and dinner (and snacks) get your metobolism up...that's why we still get really hungry around lunch after breakfast.

Eat.  I have about 300-450 cals for breakfast (try to stay around 1600 for the day), but sometimes that spreads into a snack.

Peanut Butter isn't bad. Its a good, quick and cheap source of protein, and its TASTY!!

You can always spread out your breakfast. Have a cup o joe or a cup o juice first, then when you get a bit more hungry you can have some ceral or something like that. That's what I do, but mainly because I workout three times a week in the morning, and I can't have a full tummy when I exercise.

I have to be at work between 6:00 and 7:00 am to start my crew, and there is no way I will be able to give up sleep in order to have breakfast that early.  What works really well for me is to have breakfast around 7:15 to 8:00, by which time I am really hungry and enjoy my food, and I usually eat almost a third of my daily calories at breakfast.  I am then able to work until lunchtime without eating again.

Something I tend to think about is the life on the farm (or even earlier, hunting and gathering) when we all had to work a little to make/find food, so I think we "evolved" to have a gap between arising and eating.  Anyway, it works for me!

I haven't eaten breakfast since I was 12 years old, it's been hard for me to make the time and have the interest.  I usually bring some juice, and either an apple or a whole wheat English Muffin to work with me to try and get the day started.

There's a whole grain bread I get that is 80 calories a slice.  I put one teaspoon of peanut butter on a toasted piece of bread for breakfast every day. Its only 130 calories and it holds me until at least 10:30 or 11:00 -- your mileage may vary. Wink Just wanted to point out that peanut butter isn't bad if eaten in moderation. I think a "serving size" of two tablespoons is quite a lot at once!

peanut butter def. isnt bad if you keep it to the serving size or less, buuuuuut....that's my problem!! :)

I am like you, definitely not feeling hungry in the morning, and if I eat breakfast, I seem to want to eat more.

I can force a shot of Danactive light yogurt, and I have some skim milk with my tea or coffee, and I try to get down a banana.

And peanut butter, yep, yummy stuff, and I like the crunch of the celery with it, which helps offset the calories.
