Ever have a "hungry day"?
Once in awhile I have a day where I just can't seem to get enough to eat. Today is one of those days, I've been hungry all day! I am trying to keep the eating/snacking within reason but I just can't seem to get enough!
Im going to try to do extra physical activity to make up for it.
Rachael - I think we all get days like that. Have you tried drinking a BIG glass of water? It could be that you aren't hydrated enough and not that you are hungry. This happens to me a lot!
If it turns out you really are hungry stick to really low calorie foods that have a bunch of bulk to them - salads (easy on dressing), carrot & celery sticks, apple slices, etc. (but you already know this stuff) with just a little bit of protein to make it stick to you. Avoid real salty & real sugary stuff as these can just make you feel hungrier.
Your thought about some extra physical activity might help as well - sometimes boredom can masquerade as hunger as well. When all else fails - try and go somewhere you can't be into food every five minutes (i.e. the library)
Good luck with driving the hunger monster back under the bed!

Thanks! I am drinking plenty of water, I just have one of these days every couple of weeks-- I just do the best I can to get through it!
Yes! I have them a couple of times of week...usually the day after a really heavy weightlifting day. In fact, have been having those days a lot more frequently lately. I try to drink plenty of water and never allow myself to get too hungry. :)
It has helped me to link eating with hormones. Specific times I will want/do eat more, weigh more, and lack completely motivation.
It helps me to accept certain times I am going to be hungrier and to log everything i am going to eat, before it is prepared and before it goes into my mouth. It then makes me rethink making a whole sandwich and I will only make a half instead for example.
Everyday is a "hungry day" for me...so I know how you feel. I don't have any great advice or suggestions because I am still trying to figure this out for myself. But I can relate!
If you're having a "hungry day" it could be because you didn't get enough sleep the night before. It has something to do with the glucose and hormone levels. What happens is if you don't get enough sleep it messes with these levels and causes hunger, especially for carbs. I have noticed that this is true for me. If I haven't had enough sleep, and/or am stressed, all I want is bread and chips.
I would try taking a nap.
Christina,
From what I've been reading on serotonin, it is the brain chemical that makes you feel satisfied. Your brain makes it at night. So if you are feeling hungry all day that may be part of the reason. You are low on serotonin.
It is fascinating. Check it out for yourself, everyone. It is complicated, but doable. I'm going to work on doing the things it takes to increase my serotonin level. Depression, overweight, insomnia and other things stem from low serotonin from what I'm reading.
Isn't it funny how so many issues can be triggered by one chemical that you would never think about. I would never think that all of that could be linked back to serotonin. I mean who would have though that we have the munchies all day because we aren't getting enough sleep, therefore not producing enough serotonin, which in turn can cause us to suffer insomnia starting the entire cycle over. Some times I'm just amazed by the human body.
