How can I still be hungry HELP!!!!!

Quote  |  Reply

My stomach is growling and making these loud noises and i'm hungry. Really hungry. My calorie intake is 1700 daily. I'm 45 and obese and female.

I just ate 2 of my banana pancakes 169 calories each. 1 T butter and 1/4 C of syrup along with 1 C coffee with sugar and sugar free creamer and i'm starving! At least it feels that way.

I went to bed very hungry last night but I was at my calorie limit and didn't want to go over.

:( How can I fight this. Now I only have about 900 calories for the rest of the day, it's only 11:31 am and i'm still hungry. Grrrrrr

EDIT: On top of all that nothing in my house sounds good to eat. The only thing I can think of that remotely sounds good is chili cheese fries from the hat with mustard and pickles. Or a Gigantic cheese quesadilla with lots of salsa.

A huge bowl of pasta loaded with butter and salt and pepper.

Ya right. LOL

its sounds like you are really frustrated. do your best to distract yourself away from food. But, if your stomach is actually growling it means you are indeed hungry-which isn't good. I know its no chili-cheese fries, but eat some fruit or some vegetables. Drinking tea helps me sometimes too.

hang in there...we all have good days and bad days.....

Try upping your protein and try to have some with every meal.  Protein, fibre and water are my weapons against hunger....

And perhaps you can eat up to maintence calories, if you really are hungry - it's only one day, and life is too short to spend a day hungry and worrying about food.

Hi there - I'm the same age - same boat too!  I had a very tough time this week until I resigned myself to eating mini-meals all throughout the day - like every 2 hours.  Along with that I am volumizing by eating more volume of foods that have lower calories naturally... like last night I peeled an entire pink grapefruit & ate it piece by piece just like I would an orange (but the skin is kinda thick so I only ate the pulp).  It was a large volume of food weight in grams but only 97 calories.  Get your pantry filled with things that you can have more of for the same amount of calories - like have more lowfat waffles than just one or two higher fat pancakes, & get sugar-free syrup (even my kids eat it by mistake sometimes) & by just swapping things out for others will give you more choices throughout the day so you are never hungry.  Also balance your meals with protein in each one - even if that means having 1 sausage patty (with the fat blotted with a paper towel) along with 1 pancake & syrup.  Sometimes the balance keeps me from looking for more...

And of course the hardest for me - drink drink drink!  Have water with lemon or lime or both & ice tea.  Watch out for too many fake sugars tho cause sometimes they can make you have cravings.

Get creative & hang in there because before you know it you will have found replacements that are just as satisfying (like making your own fries with low-fat shredded cheese & spices - search the recipe area).

YOU CAN DO IT - YOU ARE WORTH IT!

The fact that you went to bed last night hungry started today off bad. Maybe some oatmeal and fruit before bedtime would help.  and you have to plan each meal and snack.  That's the secret!  That way you know what's for lunch.  You're not thinking chili fries because you already have fish and sweet potato planned and all the ingredients you need.  Being organized really helps.  And keeping the food journal keeps us all real.  I have a reward for being good.  Chocoalate chips and pumkins seed.  Just a table spoon of each.   But you should never let yourself get hungry.  That's when the evil fat monster attacks.  Good Luck

Thanks everyone. I think my problem is I didn't have enough protein and fiber.

I have tried that Carey's sugar free syrup and thought it was aweful. Maybe another brand would be better. Any suggestions?

I'm going to have to go find protein or I won't make it through the rest of the day and will overeat.

Drinking hot tea does help a bit.

Hi Kindal,

I don't know any alternatives to your syrup, but I would advise that perhaps you try and cut out syrup and other highly refined sugar altogether.  They are empty calories, and are quickly metabolised, making you hungry again soon.  The problem with using diet versions of sweet things is that you aren't re-educating your tastebuds, and you are keeping your craving for sugars going.

There are others here who are much more expert than I on these things, but I suggest that you investigate the Glycemic Index (GI) scale for foods.  Sugary foods and foods high in refined starch (high GI foods) metabolise quickly and make you hungry fast.  Foods that are high in fibre, complex carbs and protein (low GI foods) take much longer to digest, release energy slowly and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

I also second what has been said above, if you are serious about losing weight, a failure to plan is a plan to fail....(as the trainier in my gym says!).  Sit down and plan your meals for the next few days, and go and buy the ingredients you need.  If you know exactly what your next delicious healthy meal is, and when you are going to have it, you can live with an hour or two's hunger pangs.

Veggie snacks are also fantastic for keeping your hunger at bay.  I keep chopped carrots and homemade low fat hummus in my fridge for snack attacks.

Good luck,

A

I love blending some canned pears with some of the juice. I then use the puree as a topping for my pancakes. Or jam, or yogurt.  I think they are sweet enough so that you don't even have to add the butter- which would leave room for something else.

usually I eat lowfat cottage cheese on mine with some sugar free jam. I just wanted the fat I guess and taste today.

GO TO SUBWAY! I ate an egg with toast in the morning then nothing for 6 hours, extremely hungry... so I went to Subway and bought a footlong veggie delight on wheat bread with light mayo. It was all about 500 calories and I'm stuffed for the rest of the day. AND IT WAS DELICIOUS! GOOOOOOO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!

Mmmmmmmmmmm Subway sounds wonderful. I ended up eating a baked potato with some of my homemade chili on it, 2 T parmesan and 2 T lowfat cottage cheese. It was okay, not fabulous but it made me full.

Now I have about 350 calories for the rest of the day. I'm making a chicken dish tonight that has one serving is 650 calories and I guess I won't be having that.

Maybe I will just have Kashi go lean and feed the other to my girlfriend. :)

That girl never gets fat. She doesn't eat that much though. She is 5'7 and about 148-151 lbs and is age 42. In her twenties she had the gastric bypass surgery and went from 280-290 down to 120 then it leveled off to where she is at now. The majority of the time she eats eggs and toast with butter.

Last night though she ate cook n serve banana pudding and got really sick. I thought about having the gastric bypass surgery but if I can lose it naturally I'd rather do it this way.

I think you could help yourself alot if you analyze your actual sugar intake.  Sugar drives the body to be hungry.  Look at areas where you can completly cut it, such as coffee, etc.  Sometimes when I feel starving like that, I realize that I need to just leave the house.  I grab a water bottle, get a piece of gum and go somewhere.  Good Luck!

Smuckers makes a breakfast syrup that is way better than Carey's, but still not the same as Mrs. Butterworth!  I haven't tried the Mrs. Butterworth lite tho.  I might give that one a try.

mommakitty,

thanks. I guess I will just keep trying them until I find one I like.

Hi Kindal - hope you're doing better already; those cravings can get to you sometimes.    I still get them occasionally but nearly so much since I started to plan my meals the evening before, or the morning of.  Not only do you know what you're getting but you can tweak it if you think you'll need snacks or want something in particular to plan around.  I take out the days snacking material and leave it on the kitchen counter to have as I want throughout the day.  (Unless it's something that needs to be refrigerated)  Things like a specified amount of Crispy Minis (small rice cakes about the size of potato chips), a bowl of fresh fruit salad, a small handful of nuts and I even leave a sticky note for a bowl of jello.  LOL!  Having something small a couple of times throughout the day prevents me from watching the clock waiting for the next meal.   I usually don't become totally starved by the time lunch or dinner rolls around.Wink

pufflet,

usually I do alright if i'm having small meals every few hours. I think it had to do with being so hungry the night before and going to bed hungry then not eating enough protein in the morning.

Sometimes I like to pre log my meals but i'm one of those people who needs a wide variety and who must listen to what her body needs. Not to say logging wouldn't help, just mostly I like to wing it. Usually doesn't cause me problems if I eat proteins and fiber.

I'm doing fine tonight. I'm not hungry. I cooked and cleaned and burned up 575 calories so I was able to add a few extra things to my food intake :)

I didn't set out to burn that many but when I logged it in I was shocked to see how many I burned.

I like your idea of sticky notes, nuts yes I need to get some almonds and this time when I go grocery shopping i'm getting all fresh veggies washing them when I get home, chopping and putting in several plastic bowls with lids. That way I can just grab n eat.

A few years back when I went on the Atkins, their syrup was very good. A little runny, but good. Although I don't know the calories.. it would be work looking up if you really need the syrup. I have been trying to use honey and/or fruit when I have the need for pancakes. Very yummy and the honey is good for the "syrup" texture.

I do the same thing, eating every few hours... it keeps me in line somehow =0) Tonight I made homemade spring rolls in the oven that were about 100 calories a piece... my thing is the need for that "fried" feeling. Darn growing up in the south, haha. A helper of mine is I ALWAYS have two salads ready to go in the fridge, just add dressing of choice and ta-da. PS, if you haven't tried the Wishbone sprayers, the ranch is amazing.. do try! Good Luck kindal Smile

lost,

ya know I keep looking at those darn sprayers and thinking how can that make my salad taste good. Only a few little drops of wetness on my salad Undecided

I'm use to drenching my salad. I don't do that anymore but even 2 T doesn't seem enough sometimes. I usually eat very big salads though at least 2 C at a time.

Hey can I have your spring roll recipe? Those sound good. Do you fry them?

Thanks

kindal,

At 24 I have problems eating healthy at times because I ate like crap for 3 years of my life leading to me becoming obese. At 45 you have probably eaten like crap for much longer than 3 years which has lead to your obesity. It's hard... really hard to change your diet, your life, etc. If you can't go gung-ho then ok. Just remember this is your life, you need to reach your goals yes but take thing slow if you need to. Forgive yourself for mess ups, and take things slower if you can. That way you are less likely to give up altogether.

If it helps think about what you MUST eat today rather than what you would like to eat. When I meet my macro's for the day first and foremost I find myself craving for less junk bc I am already full... also important to differentiate your head hunger from belly hunger... :)

G'luck!

Hey kindal, I sent you the recipe for the spring rolls, and as for the spray dressing... I was the same way when I realized I shouldn't cover my salad in dressing b/c of calories. I use about 10 sprays on my salad and use a very large bowl to make sure a little gets on every bite. I have come to love the taste of the salad now, and not just hidden valley ranch =) haha. You just have to slowly teach your taste buds that this tastes better, and soon having that much will taste gross! (at least I think it would to me now, haha, no scientific evidence) Splurge and try it! =0)

I find that salsa is a great way to spruce up any boring meal.  There are lots of days when my lunch consists of 1.5 cups of frozen california style veggies and 1/2 cup of salsa.  It's tasty and super low in calories.  Hope this helps!
