not hungry but then hunger is triggered by first taste of food--weird?
Does anyone have the experience of completely not being hungry but once they begin eating something it seems like all of a sudden they have a huge appetite? I will completely be full even and then have my afternoon snack and want to keep snacking. am i strange??
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health and Support.
oooooooooomg, what ru saying? arent u underweight? ofcourse youre hungry, think about it. youve ignored youre hunger for so long u forget what its like to feel it, youre always hungry bc youre body is starved.

This happens to me sometimes ... I'll eat a meal or snack and think geesh I was hungry! But I didn't think I was that hungry before I started eating. For me it's just a side effect of being busy and eating regular meals - most of the time I don't really think about if I'm hungry or not.

Thank you for your insensitivity. Yes I am underweight, however, I am talking about truly not being hungry. I am in recovery and eat enough to prevent hunger so please don't assume you know my situation and respond in such a negative manner. Does anyone truly not feel hungry and then hunger is tipped off by just eating something? Like with me oranges make me more hungry than before I ate the orange...sometimes apples as well. But other things don't have this effect as much.
You're not strange, I get that a lot! But for me I think it might be the taste of the food. When I get home from school, I've learned that if I eat even a little of something I crave, I can't stop eating it/eat too much of it (but not in a binge sort of way).
Even if I'm not hungry I'll have something to eat and just keep eating, thats how I gained weight. I'm sure there's some sort of explanation for it, but I don't really have one :D
I think its a little different than what you mean, because I think I just mentally like the food I'm eating so I think I'm more hungry
That happens to me all the time! :D But it's less of suddenly having a huge appetitte and more of suddely just wanting to eat a lot. I guess they could kind of be the same thing... haha.
yes that happens to me all the time too. it's like at nighttime, i would tell myself that i can eat an apple and then before i know it, i'll be eating chips , etc..

YES! apples ALWAYS trigger my hunger.. I used to eat one as a snack between meals, but stopped (unless its eaten with almonds, or something with more substance) because it would make me hungrier than before eating it. I fully understand =)

Apples do that for me too.. it's the weirdest thing.
I get something similar. For me it's more like, I need to eat a snack or something so I can last 'til dinner... And I'm not physically hungry, then I eat a snack and afterwards I'm STARVING. I guess that's why we're supposed to snack during the day? Keep the metabolism running on high? It's really annoying, though. Water helps a little, but not as much as I'd like, sometimes. You aren't strange. It's just how our bodies work.
Great job on working on getting healthier. That's awesome. You should be proud of yourself.
Actually, if you're pretty early on in recovery your hunger pangs and signals can be out of whack in that you eat, and then your body goes "WOOP FOOD" and, as you've been eating so little, brings on hunger like crazy. @_@ I had this experience at least. My satiety signals have come back since, though.
What I have to stress to you is though you're eating enough to prevent hunger you're not eating enough to recover (yet) in gaining weight. So keep building up your calories - you might find, at 2500 and up, you're actually getting that ravenous hunger less and less.
One thing I will say is when I wake up in the morning and I don't feel hungry I eat something small to start me off, like a hard boiled egg, and this usually then brings about the hunger I'd expect for a breakfast. After breakfast I feel good to go :]
that's why they call those little tidbits served before the meal "appetizers." Maybe you just need more of those to get you eating right.
LALA--I am a breakfast eater and no skipping meals for me. i believe in fueling my body. i know i'm not in the recovery range yet but i'll get there in time. slower is worse physically but a relapse is worse even still. i'm trying my best and appreciate all the support =]
No problem; I know you are increasing your cals steadily. Just aim not to drag it out TOO long as that can be just as bad as ripping off the plaster so to speak, as you can dwell on it too much. D;
That was how my eating disorder started in the first place-I found that if I skipped meals it made it easier for me b/c I just stopped getting hungry. THen of you course you start on the downward spiral and soon your hunger signals are so completely out of whack. Even though I'm almost recovered, I still find I can go all day without eating a meal and not be hungry at all (although feel sick, dizzy and tired), but if I eat breakfast, no doubt 3-4 hours later, I'm starving.
Bah. It's really odd. I never feel hungry. The only reason I know when to eat is because I start feeling tired or shakey. =/
Smelling and/or tasting food is enough to kickstart the digestive system. It causes chemicals to be released by the brain as a reaction to either the sight, smell, or taste of food.
