Not hungry because I am sick, what should I eat?
Hi,
I got the flu, so I have fever bodyache, and cough, I cannot go to the gym for my spinning nor for my weight lifting routing.
I am also not hungry enough, yesterday I ate 1300 cals, when I usually ate 2200 (moth average)
What kind of food should I eat while sick? I think prots are the most important, am I right?
any advice?
thanks
Proteins are important but actually vitamins and minerals are probably more important. I would recommend bland, warm foods with lots of nutrients. Chicken soup is a classic example - it's good because it has protein, vitamins, and minerals. Go for comfort food - toast with peanut butter, mac & cheese & hot dogs, that kind of thing. Feel free to go for the high-calorie stuff while you're sick; it's important that you get enough calories so your body has the energy it needs to fight the infection. And more important than anything else: get enough sleep!
Thank you very much, I will do that, I am more like ectomorpho so I just hope not to loose my hardly gainned lean muscle.
thanks for your advice.
Guillermo.
Ive had the flu for the past week. Its getting better but Im still sick. I wish I had your problem and hadn't been hungry. Unfortunatly for me being kinda sorta sick for days on end after the three days of hide under the covers and pray no one needs anything sick, causes me to eat. Ive gained nearly 2 lbs and I wanna cry but thats okay. Ill get back in the swing of things.

If you're sick and you've lost your appetite you shouldn't be forcing yourself to eat big meals... certainly nothing as greasy as cheese, unless you fancy adding vomiting & diarrhoea to the cough and fever. Sit it out with plenty of fluids & plain easily-digested, non-greasy foods like clear broths, dry toast or steamed fish... Take paracetamol or ibuprofen for the fever, get plenty of sleep and really don't worry about your muscles. Any weight-loss will only be temporary. When you feel better in a day or two you'll have an appetite like a horse and be back to normal in no time.
gi-jane nails it! clear broth, chicken noodle soup, soda crackers, applesauce, sugary drinks such as fruit juices, especially apple juice (clear), herbal teas with sugar or honey, no caffeine, no artificial anything.
soup!!!!! every kind but cream based!!
Hi, thanks you all for your advices
Actually I ate chicken breast with potatos, and boiled carrots (kind of salad), and water, and also slept the whole afternoon, thanks you all.
Gi-Jane, I will think about that, and will not worry about the musles.
regards.
