Hydroxycut?
Has anyone tried that? If so, does it work?
My mom has been trying to loose weight and she wanted some, and I am concerned for her. She took one and she hasn't eaten anything all day. Is this going to hurt her because she isn't eating? It won't put her in starvation mode will it? Because two pills and she didn't eat anything yesterday or today. So, idk.
sorry but that's a dumb question... of course it will hurt her if she is not eating, and yes over a period of time of not eating enough will put someone in starvation mode (but this doesnt happen overnight, it will take a few days to weeks)
hyrdroxycut like most diet pills is an appetite surpressent and stimulant (contains high amounts of caffeine)... these two things together make you feel not-hungry, but yet give you that feeling of 'energy' as if you have eaten... clever but not very safe
if she is not following the directions or a proper diet, than yes this is a bad thing and you should really do something about it... and ultimately starving will just slow her metabolism down and make the weight come back much quicker when she stops taking the pills and eats again.
.... I meant are the pills going to hurt her because she isn't eating. I know when you don't eat it hurts...
I was just wondering because they make her feel like she's eaten, so she isn't hungry, so what does she do now? You don't eat if you aren't hungry, but she wants energy to burn calories and such.
What would happen if she took the pills and she didn't eat for a while - so she was put into starvation mode - but she slowly and very gradually started eating little things, and burning extra calories, and then getting her metabolism up, and then starting to eat more and more, but working off extra calories so she doesn't gain weight, she keeps it off. Then, over a long period of time get back to normal, would that work for her? She's asking me this stuff and I don't know the answer, and she doesn't know how to use my laptop so, I am to ask you guys, I'm just asking for what you think would happen if she did that. I am not saying I think it'll work...
...well it depends on whether or not she wants to die from cardiac arrest.
caffeine is a stimulant, it causes a chemical reaction in the brain producing feelings of energy and well-being; it makes you feel energized becasue it speeds up your heart rate which possible burns some extra calories, but it also constricts blood vessels... so while your heart is pumping blood faster, the veins and arteries are not being able to supply the blood properly throughout the body... this makes the heart try to work even harder to squeeze the blood through the now teeny tiny vessels causes great stress on the entire body.
I don't see why she can't just lose weight properly and not damage herself... your theory of eating more slowly could work in theory, but their is a lot of loose ends and different varibles that could effect this...
surely she cant eat nothing forever, its not just about no food=weight loss, there is other things that food supplies too... sure she could lose weight but she WILL also lose hair, bone mass, her menstural cycle, she'll get bad/dry skin, look pale and weak, dark circles under her eyes... etc. the list goes on
so ultimately if she wants to risk losing her beauty, health and possibly her life, then I say go for it..
I totally bet she wants to die from cardiac arrest.
... she doesn't eat a lot because she is never hungry. I don't know why. And she isn't stupid, she understand how to loose weight properly she just thinks it takes too long, I guess. She wants to loose weight by the beginning of summer.
well, what are you trying to accomplish by asking then? seems to me that you and your mother all ready know all the answers...
any weight that she does lose like this, she will gain back quickly... if she does it safely then she can have it off for summer and keep it off, rather then starve till summer then put the weight all back on in the first week.
Please tell her that, regardless of the pills, it is not safe to not eat for weight loss.
Your body needs certain nourishment - even aside from calories, like protein, vitamins and minerals.
It may seem tempting to just not want to eat, but it will hurt you in the end. Your body needs nutrients.
It's totally possible to lose a lot of weight by the beginning of summer -- safely. That's still at least four months away - that's 16 weeks -- at a safe rate of 1-2 lbs per week, that's 16-32 lbs, tons of weight.
It's really, really not safe to play around with what your body needs like that.
i will tell you i was in the hospital for dehydration which totally messed my stomach up and i wasn't able to eat but barely enough food to survive and i did lose weight but i was not at all healthy. i suffered from dizziness, muscle loss, and irregular periods afterwards and it was hard for me to get back on track. i thought the weight loss looked good but soon as i started eating it all came back quickly and now i am on here trying to lose the extra leftover. i know your mom is not in the hospital like i was but i will stress that this is not the safe way to go. if she just eats more fibrous foods and stay within her calorie intake range she will be full and won't starve herself to death. i hope she tries another way.
As we get older, it seems like it's harder to lose weight. A lot of that seems to be that exercise has diminishing returns for the amount of effort you put into it. Teenagers (this is so unfair) burn a lot more calories for the same amount of effort. Men (again this is unfair) tend to burn more calories for the same amount of effort. So women are stuck doing it the slow way. However, slow and steady does win the race.
If I were you, I'd run your mom's numbers through the tools and make up a food plan with a minimum of 1200 calories per day with a deficit of no more than 1000 calories and see if you can get her to follow it. Unfortunately the weight lost from not eating while it registers on the scale is water and high maintenance tissues such as muscle...this is not the good weight to lose and it doesn't matter how much extra padding you have, your body will steal the resources it needs from what's available rather than go without. (See the biggest loser where they cut their calories too low and didn't lose the weight they wanted to, also so many of us have had this experience on this site.)
Success typically breeds success. If she starts losing weight by eating healthy and eating enough and getting some exercise (strength training will beat out cardio in this matter), then I'd bet that she'll keep it up.
While I prefer not to take supplements to inhibit my appetite if she's eating enough and has no medical issues I don't see that taking them will cause her any problems although I still think it's a waste of money.
