Hypermetabolism
So i started recovery a while ago and slowly inched up my cals. I am know eating 2500 calories with roughly 1lb gain per week although for 3-4 weeks i maintained the same weight. However i dont seem to have seen this metabolic rebound or 'hypermetabolism' everyone is talking about. My body just dosent seem to have sped up a somehow i feel cheated. I have about 7lbs to go till my bmi hits 18.5 so is it too late for me to experiance this rebound and should i up to 3000?? Will i maintain on lower cals than everyone else because i havent experiance any rebound effects?
Every gainer is different. You can up to 3000 if you wish and you may find it helps you or causes the "rebound" you're after. Also remember that the ideal BMI for a recovering anorexic is 20, not 18.5.
thanks lala..your so helpful and you have been a great support for me since i started recovery! My t and my mum want me to get to 18.5 minimum and work on foods etc but i think it will be better to be a little higher
Question: will exercise have anything to do with it at all. I dont do great amounts...2x 1 hr yoga class, 1x 1hr dance class and p.e at school (like 20min slow jogging or some thing.. cant really do nothing cause my school is a sports college)

That’s because you still haven’t given your body above what it needs to get by, much less a weight gain diet + extras to repair. All that has to happen plus a consistent extra for the full rebound. Why, as I’ve pointed out, the extreme rebounds are so often seen IP—patient allowed no exercise [wheelchair/bed rest] and consistent cals—commonly discharged on 5000. If you stay below the threshold or remain active [even partially], your body just keeps making good use of what it’s got.
I wrote a bit more about it in the past, and even on my last post on the eating-today thread. Exercise and limited eating [meaning eating that isn't OVERboard what you would need with a normal metabolism] works against the rebound.
Also worth noting-wanting the extreme metabolism is a key sign that your body is still starving. Otherwise you wouldn't want to have to eat so much more!
so..tuffstuff - i should eat more??
Very simply, I think the answer to that is "yes".
Ha ha lala tahnks i know it sounds like a dumb question butsometimes i just need someone to say its okay for me to eat or i have permission to do so and so or not exercise etc etc. I will try to get to 3000
