Is anyone out there hypoglycemic?
I have not been officially diagnosed but feel that I probably am.  Lots of symptoms, plus my mom and aunt both have it.

Any advice would be much appreciated . . .

I've had very mild hypoglycemia for close to 6 years now and I've found that the best way to deal with it is to have lots of fruit in your home and buying dried fruits in bulk so you can portion out small bags to carry with you in case of an emergency.

It's really all about making sure that you don't let yourself get to the point that you start feeling faint or dizzy. Other than that, I don't have any other ideas.

Good luck

Yes, I am. Hypoglycemic/insulin resistant. You can go to your Dr. and get a blood sugar monitoring kit. Monitor your blood sugar at different times during the day for a week or so. Log it and your Dr. will be able to get an idea if it is unstable. Might send you for a fasting blood sugar test.

What kind of symptoms do you have? I get tired, irritated, ravenous appetite, shaky, confused, sweaty, weak, headache.

If you are hypoglycemic you need to eat frequently to prevent your blood sugar from dropping too low.

Check out the glycemic index. It will give you an idea of what foods you should eat if you have blood sugar issues.

yeah i am, and i foudn it hard at first being in schoola dn getting hungry but i started eating zone bars because they have all the balanced nutrition without causing your bood sugar to spike then crash (15g of protein to balance out the carbs) and you dont even need to eat all of it at a time, just enough to hold you over.

another thing id o is always keep a granola bar, piece of fruit, or bag of dried fruit on hand at ALL TIMES

It is really important to get evaluated to see if you are hypoglycemic, because it can be dangerous in doing various activities, such as driving a car or operating any machinery.  This is a serious disease, called diabetes. Although some might not classify it as it is just as bad if not worse than having to control your blood sugars within a range, at least that is what I believe. I am type II and it is really difficult.

I recommend getting a monitor from your doctor because they are supplied these by manufactures and do self monitoring for about a month, different times different foods and after different activites.  A week is truly not enough time. THere is an in office test called a HBA1C test that can be given it will give an average of your 3 month blood sugar, which might be what he does along with a glucose tolerance test. Not sure how accurate that will be. But you might be diabetic with the side effect showing as hypoglycemic if you are overly active or don't eat right food proportions.

The advice about food is good to have around.  Raisins can be good in their small boxes or just buy a big bag and then . . . put it a ziplock bag and carry.

The best of luck to you. Take care and God Bles.

thanks everyone!  that helps a lot.  im going to get this checked out asap.
