Hypoglycemia??

Quote  |  Reply

I just read a post from Ama in 2006 saying this:

"I seem to get very weak at about 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning.  I shake, and get those black-out things when I stand up...  I'm not sure what it could be, coffee? Not enough protein? too much space between meals? Hypoglycemia?"

I have the exact same thing, but I also eat like a horse! I am only 8 stone 3 and 5'6" and I manage to put away much more than my larger housemates. The calorie counter gave me for yesterday a calorie count of 2800 (A- rating)... and yet I still feel hungry most of the time!

Any idea what's up?

I posted a thread about hypoglycemia a little while ago, there might be some useful information on there for you to look at.

I'd also recommend looking at hypoglycemia.org which has lots of information and a quiz that you can do based on the symptoms. If you think you have it, go and see your Dr. and tell them how you've been feeling etc..

I went to my Dr. and took a print out of my results from the quiz, that way she could see all my symptoms clearly. Good luck!

I am also a hypoglycemic and have found something that helps.  What are you doing to keep it under control currently?

Eating ALOT... lol

but I am usually still hungry, have just had a whole plate of curry and rice and my stomache says it's not full. I am wheat intolerant (a recent occurence, which is getting less and less of a problem, will probably be able to eat it again soon) I used to go for toast when I was feeling strange but now its oatcakes, bananas or cornflakes.

Other aditional 'symptoms' I have noticed are:

Feeling 'stupid' if i am studying I just cant process the information

Long distance sight goes fuzzy - I find myself constantly pushing my glasses up or cleaning them cos I think they are the problem

Inability to concentrate and get things in order

Loss of ability to multi-task

I get alot of the same things i hate it when someone is talking and i just can't even respond cause my mind doesn't seem to be moving fast enough. Or when i stand and almost fall back into the chair. I don't know what to do to correct this. I don't know if i am hypoglycemic but i am pretty anemic, so maybe have your doctor check for that. It is where your not getting enough oxygen in your blood out to your cells. Maybe that is causeing both our problems.

Go to your doctor straight away.   What you're describing could be hypoglycaemia or it could be that you're displaying the first signs of diabetes.   The blurred vision, very low weight, fatigue etc. are quite common   http://www.nhs.uk/Pathways/diabetes/Pages/Sym ptoms.aspx  But it could be something else, of course.  You'll need to see a doctor so that they can run a few tests and make a diagnosis.

Don't delay...

I have been tested for diabetes in the past (because I get quite severe mouth ulcers, which can be a sign) and both times I was negative. I am also not aneamic, I have had that test too - the symptoms I was displaying that time turned out to be my wheat allergy. I have got a doctors appointment re my perenial rhinitis next week so I will mention this.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replys and concern

If you are eating enough it is most likely not caused by hypoglycemia. I am a paramedic and surprisingly few people are actually hypoglycemic that think they are. There are a lot of other things that can cause your symptoms, hypothyroid, orthostatic hypotension to name a couple. I have orthostatic hypotension. That is because i normally have extremely low blood pressure and everytime i stand up the world goes black and i get dizzy lightheaded and nauseated. If you are concerned I would see your doctor. He is the only one who can truly figure out the problem.

Hi Liztiddington--have you ever tried a natural approach to alleviate the symptoms?  I now use the Reliv Nutrition and I'm not having any symptoms.  I've been on it since last December and if I miss a couple of my shakes I notice the symptoms coming around, but otherwise I have it under control.  But you can also eat every two hours if you're not using some type of Nutritional Program that targets your Cellular health and regulates your sugars.  Hope that helps.  Randi Jackson

I had severe hypoglycemia in High School. Every morning I would get dizzy and black out then usually vomit. The nurses would give me those weight watchers protein shakes and have me carry small snacks such as trail mix and cheerios.  It also helped in the morning if I ate a cracker in bed right when I woke up.

Yeah i usually have to eat within a half hour of waking up or i feel dizzy and tired till i do, sometimes start blacking out, sometimes just feel generally crappy.
