Quote  |  Reply
I'm on 3 pills a day now for almost 2 months. I HAVE NOT LOSS ANY WEIGHT. I'M STILL THE SAME. The only difference I'v seen is my neck is smaller, and my face a bit too. That's it. I also walk ether with my mom or I have to take the stroller 3. I do this about 3 or more times a week. Whats going on?

How long after you started the magic pill did you start to drop the weight????????

I have a small goal of 10 pounds by Christmas, but I'm not going up or down :(

Let me get this straight. You're taking three L-thyroxine pills per day? If that is indeed the case, that is an enormous dose. You absolutely should not take more than your doctor has prescribed for you?one of the nasty side effects of too much thyroid hormone is brittle bones (calcium loss). You don't want to go there. (For reference, I am about 170 pounds, tested borderline low for thyroid function, and take a single 0.075mg thyroid pill every morning.)

So your neck and your face show some slimming. Do your waste or hips also show this? If so, you've replaced some of the fat with muscle. No problem. When your body has finished adding the muscle that it needs to support your activity level (you were extremely sedentary before, right?), you will once again see weight loss, but until then, YOU ARE STILL LOSING FAT. This is a good thing.

For my first two months on C-C, I didn't really lose any weight; however, I gained a lot of muscle in my then-atrophied right thigh over that period of time, and I lost over an inch in my waist. Now that my thigh is more or less back to normal, I have found that I'm losing about a pound and a half per week.
Ask your Dr. about doing the test for "inseline resistance." AND TH3-TH4 Thyroid function test. Sometimes it's just slow matabolism and in order to speed it up exercise is the only answer. I know you didn't want to hear that, but I didn't want to admit it myself. I was doing everything to the tee, even exercise. It wasn't until I increased my workouts that the weight started coming off.

behanna is right about the L-thyroxine....BE CAREFULL!!! It also causes irregular heart beats!
I've been taking Levothyrox for 5 months, and I haven't lost any weight either.  It can take a really long time (years for some) to get the right dosage yet.  I'd discuss it further with your doctor.

I'll also add warnings about too high of a dosage.  I ended up being too high for about a month, and it was a completely miserable experience.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid 5 years ago and prescribed a 1mg dose of levothyroxine. People told me that I would lose weight after the meds regulated my thyroid function. I was SO excited. My experience was that I lost absolutely nothing. Since then, I have had my thyroid checked regularly - recently at yearly physicals but in the first couple of years, more frequently. The thyroid is functioning correctly and has been since shortly after I started taking the meds. Sorry to disappoint but I don't think the weight loss is an automatic result for everyone.
If all of you are Hypothyroid and taking the drug of choise like Synthroid or the genaric AND it's still not helping your symptoms ask your Dr. to put you on ArmorThyroid. This medication treats the T3 and the T4 level! I was taking Synthroid for 23 years and nothing helped because it was only treating the T3 level. (or the other one)...I forget....ANYWAY,  I gave up on all hope until my Chiropractor told me about this medication. Most Doctor's will not give it because it is out-dated and an "old" remedy. But please ask to see if they will allow you to change medications, at least to try it for about 6 months. If your Doctor is unwilling try to go to an endrocrinologist who specializes in this. It has helped a great deal for me!! Granted it is harder for us Hypothy's to lose weight vrs. a normal person. We have to work at it harder to get the same results!!! But we can do it!!!WE REALLY CAN!!!
Oh I forgot!!! VERY IMPORTANT!

If you take medication for Hypothyroid you should NOT eat ANY SOY products of ANY kind. The soy keeps the medication from working and slows your metabolism down. Search the web. I have a post  last week for more info.
i was diagnosed hypothyroid about 5 years ago, and it took at least 2 years to get me on the right med dosage.  currently, i take 112 mcg of thyroxine, which actually was reduced from a higher dose after i lost my first 10 pounds!  that said, what my doc told me was that even tho the weight GAIN was caused by underactive thyroid, the weight LOSS was gonna take work...ALOT of work, in the form of diet and EXERCISE.  sorry, no way around that.  it does seem to take me longer than it used to to drop pounds, but i have been steadily doing it since may of this year.  i am down 17.5 pounds and 8 or 9 total inches.  i strive for 300 minutes of some form of exercise each week.  you CAN do it, but it may be slower for us than others.
