For those with Hypothyroidism...?
I'm newly-ish diagnosed and when my tsh levels first came back they were 10.7 & my weight loss had stopped completely. I hadn't gained (thank God) but I was getting pi**ed off that my efforts were getting me nowhere, but was sort of glad there was a 'reason' for that? Anyway, 6wks later my levels were 10.9 so my Doc started me on 100mcg of Levothyroxine, and the lbs started to come off again. At my 6wk check my levels had dropped to 0.02 (!) so he lowered my dose to 75mcg- and now my loss has stopped again!!?? What I was wondering was did anyone else have these problems while trying to get their levels regulated? I don't see him again for another 2wks- should I go back earlier? Its very disheartening?... ![]()
I got diagnosed only 6 weeks ago (after getting a flu and gaining a crazy 5 pounds in a few days), so I'm not an expert, but my mom also has hypothyroidism and I've seen that when your levels are out of whack, it's hard to control your weight.
My TSH levels were at 98.7 and after four weeks on 125mcg now they are at 0.23 and I haven't lost any weight, but then again, I haven't tried. I'm trying NOW though, because I just had knee surgery and I NEED to get weight off that knee as soon as possible.
Just wait until your next appointment, it takes a while for these things to work. It may take a few appointments to get your med dosage where you need it.
Keep eating right and working out and doing whatever you are already doing right, and your body will eventually catch up as soon as the levels are regulated. Take into consideration that from now on, weight loss may (or may not) be a little slower. Don't give up!
Thanks for that- its such a big difference in my levels I wonder did it shock my body somehow! LOL! But your difference was FAR bigger! My Doc did say that once my levels were regulated that I should be able to lose like anyone else- its the no loss/slight gain thats worrying me- especially when I'm eating so well? I guess I'll have to be patient.... not easy for me!
Thanks again.
When he gets you leveled out, the weight will start coming off as you continue your journey of exercising and eating healthy. Hang in there and it is good he wants to see you in 2 weeks instead of 6 months..Been there.
I am so grateful that I do not own a thyroid any longer. I had major problems for 10+years and over 100 pounds later. Good thing now though..the weight is coming off...still p%$*ses me off having to go through that for so long. Sounds like you have a good Dr. who cares!
Hypothyroidism is so frustrating and fortunately there is more awareness these days about the thyroid and how it controls our EVERYTHING! Oprah looks terrible since she was diagnosed with Thyroid problems and with all that access to incredible doctors, I am very surprised it has not been controlled or been a topic yet.
Keep me posted!
Leslie
Thanks for that Leslie. It was encouraging when he first put me on meds & I started losing- the frustrating thin is since he changed them I've stopped again! LOL! Maybe my body is getting used to the new dose? I'll hang in there for another while & hope my body catches up with my efforts soon! Thanks again.

Hello.
I have hypothyroidism. Im only fourteen years old. Im really not happy about my weights. Im 164 right now and im only 5'1. The body mass index shows me that im obesity at the moment. Its very fustrating. My mom has been yelling at me about my weights. She always think I eat too much foods. Ive been telling her that im not eating too much foods. My mom decided to talk with my pediatrics doctor about my weights and stuff. They decided to do a blood work and found I had a hypothyrodisim. Im currently taking levothyroxine with .75 mg. I went today to the doctor for the physical check up, they highly recommended me to see a specialist doctor which is called endocrinologist or however you spell that. Ive been gaining alot of weights lately. I tried to exercise everyday it never works. I would like some advices and some help. If your willing to speak with me about my problems, you can add me as friend =). Thanks for your time.
