Hypothyroidism & Wacky Periods
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over a year ago. Up until the last 3 or 4 months, I saw no real change in my periods. I have never missed one & they've always been on time. Recently, they've started comming early & the flow is backwards from what it used to be-heavy then light. This month, it came 10 days early.
Monday morning, I intend to find a new gyno, as mine passed away last month. I just thought I would throw the question out there - has anyone else experience such wackiness with hypothyroidism??

Bump-Anyone out there?
hey, curly ...
just wanted to respond since no one else has
i was dx hypothyroid a few years ago, but i've been amenorrheic for an embarrassingly long time so i cant share personal experience. but it is really common to for menstruation to be a little screwy as a result of thyroid problems

are you taking thyroid hormone replacement?
Hi curlygirl28! have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism as well, and have never been able to predict the flow of my period for more than a few months. I have noticed that in summer months, my flow tends to start more slowly, I have less cramping, and my weight fluctuation is less. Those are really the only months I don't have as much of a problem being on my period. During winter months, however, I have slight depression, heavy flows, and a tendency to gain a lot of weight, (anywhere from 6-10 lbs at times.) If my medicine is not regulated just right, I have noticed it will tend to be heavier from the time I start with severe cramping, and when levels are normal, I start light and get heavy with time. To answer your question, you thyroid will mess with your period a lot! I wish you luck in finding a way to regulate yours. It may be nothing more than having you TSH ran again and having the doctor up your medicine. Good luck!
Thanks for the reassurance, ladies! I am currently taking Levoxyl. When I was taking Synthroid, my periods were the same as they had always been-predictable. Since changing to the Levoxyl, they have been messed up. Right now, I'm going thru what you described, rachael. I started 10 days early & the flow is more like a trickle. I'm on day 4 today & this morning my head started throbbing as if I was just starting. What's odd is that just this past week, my hubby & I decided that we ARE going to have a baby in the next year. I just hope this doesnt hurt our chances....
hello curly girl, I dont know if I have Hypothyroidism but I have lost my period for over 6 months now, yesterday I went to a blood test to find out whats wrong with me, and the nurse said the most probable thing is that I had thyroid issues, so as you see its quite normal to get unpredictable periods because of it, (htere is something inside me that tells me its all about thyroid) but the worst is that I didn't noticed it till I stope taking birth control pills because they make your period regular... so it can cheat you sometimes..
