So I had a hyst 5 years ago and over that time I have put on about 10 lbs a year. I still have my ovaries, but everything else is gone. I have talked to my dr about it and was told that shouldn't have anything to do with it. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? I just think it really changed the dynamics of my body.
When my son was born 8 years ago this May 27th I had an emergency hyst and I have never been the same (weight wise) since. I too still have my ovaries but everything else is gone which sometimes is nice....but I never put the two together.
Maybe it has something to do with weight gain - not sure I guess it would take several more women replying so we could make our own study/conclusion?
Thanks so much for the input. Let's see what other women have to say. I am curious to see how many have experienced the same thing. Good luck in your weight loss journey. I am 10 days into the program and down 2 lbs. :-)
My pleasure - I'm 7 days in and I lost 5 pounds...lots of water I'm sure....good luck to you as well and I look forward to seeing if others found the same results as we have.
I only recently had my hysto (and have a different question), but I can tell you that I was on track to gain about 10 lbs per decade myself... until I took drastic measures. My comfortable weight was around 135, next thing I knew I was 145, 155, 162... when I said WOE. I'm tall, and most people think I'm ridiculous about it... but I have a high incidence of diabetes in the family and I KNOW that if you let 10 lbs go, you wake up one day with 50.
So, your weight gain may just be like mine was... the doc's are right, a hysto should have nothing to do with weight gain from a hormonal perspective (we have our ovaries still)... unless you have the following:
Changed sex habits from no pregnancy worries? = more wining and dining
prior to the hysto you were on some form of birth control that also helped to control your "natural" hormones and therefore your weight? Natural systems tend to hang on to more water = more on the scale.
Increasing your water intake and lowering your sodium would be a good check for the water issue... not water pills!
My question is related to discharge changes... different color and consistency after the hysto? Did you experience this?
