It has been a while since I have visited the message boards. Now that summer has arrived and my son wants dad to take him for ice cream, I have found something that is really good without having to feel guilty. It is called Only 8 Frozen Yogurt. It is soft serve and I am beginning to actually think it tastes better than soft serve chocolate ice cream. Check at your local mom n pop ice cream place to see if they carry it. Here is the nutrition info:
Serving sice 1/2 cup
Calories 32, Fat 0, Sat Fat 0, Chol 0, Sodium 40mg, Carbs 7g, Fiber 0, Sugars 7g, Protien 1g. It is also kosher certified.
Since I have stumbled across it 3 weeks ago, I almost treat myself to it everyday.
Hope everyone has a happy 4th of July. Be Safe!

i'll keep an eye out for that! our local frozen custard shop now carries a fat-free sugar-free frozen yogurt that we tried the other day, but it doesn't taste quite "cold" enough to me. one thing i really like now---are called skinny cows, but they have 140 cals each. so thanks for your suggestion. it would be great to find those.
The Yoguart shop in our area, can't remember the name, but they have a
penguin for a logo... the name delight is in it... I think... anyhow,
they're right next door to Subway where I eat lunch a couple times a
week.
Summer, you're right brings it out of me and a few weeks ago I went in. They carry a sugar free-fat free version that is 10 calories per ounce the medium is 8 oz and plenty of it, so therefore it's only 80 calories... yummy. I find it hard to believe that you're version is correct at 32 calories, are you certain that's not per ounce or something? 'Cuz 32 for 1/2 cup sounds kinda low...
I've been extreemly conscious of the trickery that labelers use. For instance, a pot pie is about 425 calories per serving... however if you look closely, you will discover that the little darling is considered 2.5 servings for an individule pot pie! TIIC just want you to eat the thing they don't always care if they mislead you.

Hi Sharon,
You are so right about the tricky labels. Always look for amounts per serving. This Only 8 Frozen Yogurt is pretty close to the stuff you've come across. 8 calories per ounce instead of 10. A 1/2 cup serving is 4 oz so it is 32 calories
They have a web site and heres the link www.only8frozenyogurt.com
Maybe you can call them or email them to see if there is a place in your area that serves it. You have to try it. So much better than soft serve ice cream.
I have been treating myself to a large cup like every other day. It is a 14 oz cup and so it is like 112 calories. It is a huge amount and it fills me up and leaves me satisfied.
I had a soft serve chocolate ice cream cone the other day and I couldn't believe how sour it tasted. I guess I have become so used to the frozen yogurt.

We've been getting sugar-free ice cream (sweetened with Splenda) for the house freezer. 80 calories per half cup instead of 200.
Still and all, a half cup of ice cream is a very small amount. You really do have to measure it at first to get used to just how little it is.
A single scoop at Bruster's is likely a half-cup all by itself, and that stuff is going to be more like 300 calories per half-cup, given how rich it is. A double helping on a sugar cone could easily be 1,000 calories. Heck, I was shocked to find that a medium DQ Blizzard was 1,000 calories (I went for a long, hard bicycle ride that night, let me tell you!)
I'm also a little angry about this kind of thing--especially given misleading labeling, it's like the food industry is out to get us. Most people do not read the labels, and have no idea what a calorie bomb they are putting into themselves with each meal and with each dessert. No wonder the U.S. is the fattest country in the world!

OMG, a medium DQ blizzard is 1000 cals? I think I'll be passing and stickling to my Only 8. This stuff is so good. Keep a look out for it.
wow, that was an eye opener. I never would have thought DQ blizzards were THAT bad. I knew it wasn't a good thing to have, but had no idea just how high in calories they really are. I guess I won't be stopping there again any time soon.
He he he... I'm sure it's completely legit - but for some reason I'm reminded of that Seinfeld episode where they ruin the local ice cream/yogurt shop by exposing it as not so healthy. And they monkey with the mayoral election in the process. And Jerry inadvertently teaches a little boy the f-bomb. :)
I just sent them an email. Do you know if they sell it in the Tampa area?
yeah our ice cream shop has it (big dipper). i've had it and it definetly has a strange taste when you start eating it, but it's pretty good. i'll never give up my rainbow sprinkles though. (but i don't eat ice cream that much anyways)
Jenn, I too have noticed a strange taste with all the other flavors except the chocolate. The chocolate tastes like chocolate ice cream to me.
Timbergrove, Let me know if they reply to your email. I visist the Tampa Bay area several times a year since the family is there. I would like to know of a place that sells it too so I don't have to go without while in FL. My mom is checking a place over on Dale Mabry.

Arrrgh! There is not a single ice cream shop within a 20 mile radius that is privately owned and not a chain! Now I'm checking out other places, like diners, to see if they have a soft serve machine. When I find one I'm going to give them the material on the Only 8 website and try to convince them to carry this product. All so I can have just one a week!
Girls, I put small (unopened) containers of sugar-less, 0 fat Yogurst in my freezer to cheer me up on hot days. If you don''t leave it there till it's like rock, it is almost like bought frozen yogurt. Much cheaper and always convenient. When frozen hard, you can leave it out for a while till it softens a bit. To work on hard yogurt with the spoon is not bad either.
You can buy non-electrical ice cream gizmo. It is French made, but available in US/Can. You keep insert for it in the friezer and put in to plastic container you will use to mix ice cream in. You just have to turn handle few times (not a hard work at all!!!) and you have soft frozen yogurt, sherbet or skim milk ice cream all with sweeteners, no fat. You can experiment based on how many calories you want to put in, but believe me something like Lemon sherbet (just lemon juice, water and sweetener) is like real slush + with minimum calories.
This is my most favourite kitchen helper as it helps me to have what I want, with content of what I can have. Only just experimenting with it will give you pleasure and if you put the right stuff in you will be having your sweet deserts all the time without ruining your calorie counting program.

elin,
I'm in Canada, and we have skinny cows here.
It's in our store called "Save-on Foods". You might get them in a Safeway.
Not sure where you live.
