ok I have this really bad habit of eating ice cream like every day! I either go to DQ or eat the edy's loaded ice cream which is pretty low cal...but I also love cereal and I was thinking of replacing my ice cream with a bowl of cereal instead....would this be better?
Depends on the cereal, but I think cereal has an easier portion control (1/2 cup of ice cream? seriously?), so it might be better. Also you'll get protein from the (soy) milk.
Not to hijack this thread or anything but is soy milk that much better than 1% milk?
I've been eating bowls of Cheerios a lot lately and it takes care of my sweet craving. I use 1% milk.

When I read this thread I really felt like I was reading something I wrote!! I can eat a whole container of Eyd's Loaded!! It is so good!! So yeah latley I've been trying to eat cereal instead, but in the long run the ice cream has fewer cals, so I'm going for the ice cream!!
On one of my naughty days I bought a half gallon of Breyer's Light. My BF bought Haagen-Dazs (sp?). I did the half cup of Breyers and one tablespoon of HD..... I found that I liked the Breyers more! &nbs p; I know !!!!
So.... at 110calories and 3.5 grams of fat a serving (vs..... 270/18)I am willing to splurge occasionally! This stuff is the greatest :)

This may be dangerous to mention but I love eating cereal. With icecream.... esp the fruity crunchy ones...
amh1113 - no idea really, the thought of drinking milk just disgusts me. Plus, I've just recently learned, that most of the worlds population is lactose intolerant to some degree, so soy milk is just my "milk" of choice (on the other hand, I'm fine with any other dairy product)
The cereal has a lot more nutrition in it, not to mention fiber. That is if you choose a healthy cereal and not froot loops or cocoa puffs. And I can't imagine that a healthy, low fat cereal has more calories than ice cream. Any kind of flakes is about 100 calories a cup and a full cup of non fat milk is only 80 or 90. Add some strawberries or blueberries for another 50 calories, and you've got a balanced meal instead of a big snack.
i try to stay away from both of them. cereal has so many calories for the little half cup you get to enjoy and keeping ice cream in the house for me is a no no. if it's the full fat high cal stuff i won't touch it but if it's low cal then i can't stop at just half a cup. i'll want it till its all gone. so i avoid them both.
I have found these mini-ice cream candy bars (twix, snickers, etc) and they are 90 calories a piece. I like it because its already portion controlled - just grab and unwrap - so it keeps me from adding more. it usually dulls my craving.
my breakfast is 1c. cheerios with a banana and 1/2c. vanilla soy milk. It's really good and very sweet! It runs at about 280 calories so you may want to halve the quantity, but give it a shot! It may help you :)
i would go for the ice cream. the ice cream i eat is 90cals for 1/2c and only 2g of fat. if i ate the cereal w/f.f organic milk and all it would be like 120 and if i want a sweet i will take ice cream for less cals.
I've been having the Breyers 100 cal. cups lately. It's enough to settle my craving and I don't have to measure it out. If I buy a carton there's only a slim chance that I will only eat 1 serving, so I pay a little more to eat a little less. If it wasn't working, I'd feel ripped off!! LOL
I do however agree that cereal can be much healthier, but sometimes I just NEED ice cream.

I'm an ice cream and cereal fan too (never had them together though, red herring).
Do you know that Lucky Charms gets an 'A' on this site?
With ice cream, it's safer to eat something that's pre-measured for you. I like skinny cow vanilla ice cream sandwiches.

Its good. You know how they put nuts on icecream? Its like that but sweet. Gives it crunch. Maybe you could have a little bit of both :) I am evil. (its addictive)
Actually, it sounds really good (with Fruity Pebbles). {You are evil}
Hmm - I once had cheerios with vanilla ice cream and strawberry syrup. That's good stuff! (Thanks to an aunt! :-) ) At least, I remember that it was good.
Course, that was probably at least 15 years ago!

me and my bro used to always eat vanilla ice cream and cheerios. so good.
well i don't eat much...so I always have like 1.5 servings of cereal which is like 235 calories with half cup of skim milk...but as for the ice cream its always like between 330-390 calories...but thanks for the help
I have the same addiction.....Cereal is AWESOME....and it is my weekness....but I also like ice cream.....I have been eating the Guilt Free Yarnells made with splenda...butter pecan....1/2 cup topped with multi grain cheerios!!! It is awesome....normally prefer the regular but multi grain was all I had....I also like to add rice krispies or corn chex...I like a little crunch with my ice cream!!! Anyway it is delicious and satisfies the sweet tooth!!
i think cereal could be dangerous too if you're like me.. with sugary cereals i cant stop at one bowl! maybe you could mix some yogurt with some cheerios or something for a crunch and w/ sweetness?
