ICE CREAM and CHOCOLATE are calling my name!!!

Quote  |  Reply

So it's been 2 weeks since I have had ice cream or chocolate and the start of my diet. I can't get this sweet stuff out of my head. I want to eat it but then I don't cause I just lost 9 pounds. I'm afraid that if I go to long with out it then I'm going to binge eat and I really don't want to do that. I don't know what to do. My husband eats ice cream like every night and all kinds of good tasting but bad for you junk food. It's driving me crazy. All I want is some Ice cream or Chocolate but I have been doing so well not eating it. Please any advice or motivation will really help.

Does anyone else get these cravings like I do? If so what do you do to stop that craving?

Not only do I want sweet stuff I want some real good tasting food like Mexican, Chinese, or a big fat juicy cheese burger. I'm sick of all this diet food and it has only been 2 weeks. UGH!!! I want to scream.

If you think you can control the portion size, there's nothing wrong with having a little bit of chocolate, ice cream, or both.  For me, if I let the craving go, I wind up indulging in a lot more of it later than if I just had a little bit of it immediately.

Actually, I got a really good recommendation from Hungrygirl.com today:  Breyers Double Churn fat free french chocolate ice cream - only 90 cals a serving.

http://www.icecreamusa.com/products/product.c fm?u=77567-26661&b=1

There's also Skinny Cow chocolate ice cream sandwiches - only 140 cals each....ummmmm

I've been dieting for 5 months now, i NEVER could stay away from my sweet foods i loved before so i always failed. but the past 5 months are great. the days i really crave something, i make room for it. i count my calories, eat lighter healthier things..then save the amount for the sweet thing, like today i wanted mint chocolate chip ice cream..so i had eggbeaters for breakfast(30 cal)..special k bar (90)for a snack..salad with veggies for lunch(200)..and ice cream when i came home about (150+15 for the cone)..and for dinner im having a chicken wrap.

see and about the chinese..or mexican.. well I LOVE LOVE LOVE chinese food.my favorite resturant is this place called east dynasty..its a buffet, but i do it wisely. i get steemed veggies(green beans and corn)..sesame chicken, general tso, peanutbutter chicken, and crab meat. but the trick with that is instead of getting a serving amount of EACH chicken..get a few peices of each and cut them in halves on ur plate and eat with chop sticks..that way ur getting all the kinda of foods u wanted but not as much calories and fat..and u dont over fill yourself.

honestly-i was 153..dieted at a 1200-1300 calorie diet..ate basically things i loved just in moderation and counting calories to make room..also in the past 3 weeks ive went to that buffet once a week. yahh sounds like alot. but ive lost a pound.

just dont binge, set aside what u want..and DONT go back for more.

i realy hope this helped a little:)

It's best just to give in to the craving.  I've been doing the whole calorie counting thing since March.  When I have a craving, I usually give in, but only a small amount.  A half a cup of ice cream and some hershey chocolate syrup are only about 200 calories.  Just make sure you measure out the proper amount in a serving.  I bought a postal scale at Office Depot for around $40, and it really helps, because you can measure everything out in grams and you know exactly what a serving size is.

As for the good tasting food cravings, why not make the food yourself, then you know exactly how many calories you are eating.  Buy really lean ground beef and make some soft tacos, they really aren't that many calories.  My husband and I have them all the time (sometimes with chicken and sometimes with beef).  They are quite filling for about 300 calories a taco.  I usually will have 2 for dinner.

I hope this helps.

think of it as a lifestyle change, not a diet! you aren't going to go the rest of your life without ever having your favorite foods right? you need to learn to budget them in and have them as a treat now and then!

the key is portion control!! a lot of brands (like weight watchers) make pre-portioned ice cream ice cream cups for anywhere from 100-200 cals. there are also 100 cal chocolate bars out there too! that way, you are giving in and having a treat, but not giving up on your new healthy eating habits. you need to enjoy food and life, and like you said, NEVER giving in to the cravings will probably lead to a binge!

i also try to plan a cheat meal once a week where i can have what ever terrible unhealthy thing i've been craving, be it chinese, pizza or a big juicy burger. since i've been eating healthier, i've noticed that i can't eat nearly as much of those old favorites as i used to. i used to be able to polish off a medium pizza myself, now after half i'm ready to pop! same goes for ice cream 1/2 cup used to look so puny, now it's perfect and satisfying! now if only i could give up the weekend beers....

totally agree with jules! i feel like if i say i'm on a diet, it means i'm gonna come to a point when i'm going to be off it, and that makes me think i could gain the weight back. but if i think about how i'm changing my eating completely for just a better, healthier way to go , it makes me feel much better not only about my food, but about myself. and i definitely do NOT plan to cut out chocolate, cheeseburgers, pizza....

and for santonacci: that breyer's ice cream is CRAZY good! i swear, it's better than the real thing!

I have my own ice cream & chocolate rule...I only buy it at an ice cream place and order one scoop. Usually only get a kid's scoop (but Ben & Jerry's still makes you pay for a small). Sometimes I scare the person working there when I frantically start screaming "Stop! That's enough!" But whatever it takes to keep me from buying a pint and eating the whole thing.

Same with chocolate. If I reaaally want chocolate I buy the smallest (usually less than 1 oz) most priciest little square from the grocery store. Or go to See's or Godiva and get one little piece. Some people can keep chocolate in the house, I'm not one of them, so if I want it I have to think about it, plan for it and then go get it.

I have found the SouthBeach Pizza (340 cal) calms my pizza cravings, Jello-Pudding Snacks in the Sugar Free flavors calms my chocolate cravings (60 cal) and Sun Chips indiviudal bag (140 cal) calms my chip cravings.  Hope this helps.  If you have any other ideas, I'm open!!!

I mentioned Hungrygirl.com above for the ice cream tip, but that website has the best ideas - including healthy versions of popular restaurant favorites!  The other day they profiled the healthy version of Chili's southwestern eggrolls - they sound great!

If anyone here hasn't visited Hungrygirl, it's worth checking out.  Today's tips:  100 calorie desserts  (great ideas!!!)

Because this is a lifestyle change for me and NOT a diet, I know that I will be incorporating Everything into my eating plans occasionally, especially ice cream since that is one of my favorite sweets.  What I do is take the smallest bowl in my house (the size they serve dipping sauce in at a restaurant) and then scoop ice cream into it.  I eat it slowly and savor it and then I tell myself that I've had a whole bowl of ice cream.  It works, and then I don't binge, because I'm allowing it into my eating plans.  Just make sure it fits into your caloric allotment for the day.
I get the 100 calirie cups of Breyer's ice cream, scoop one into a little dish, add a few slices of frozen banana, a drizzle of sugar-free calorie-free chocolate syrup and maybe a chopped up walnut.
I see no problem with having a correctly portioned cup of ice cream once in a while (for me it's once a week). If you continue to crave it, you run the risk of overeating.

I really do NOT suggest buying a tub of Breyers or Ben & Jerry's just because I believe that if you have it in your fridge, you're going to eat it. Instead, I suggest going to a corner store and buying a single fudgesicle or a single ice-cream sandwich, for example. That way, once you're finished, it's gone, and you don't continue to have temptation in your freezer for a week as you would with a tub of ice cream.
I am a huge ice cream fan...and lactose inntolerant (go figure)...but i take a pill and head for the carton. There are always the skinny cow brand ice cream, fudge pops, and i just found out two days ago that the snickers ice cream bars (look like the candy bar) only have 180 calories! So they have become my new vice ;) Chin up, you are definatly not alone. I like to eat the ice cream...and then just add about 10 more minutes to my workout...so i don't feel as guilty :)
Thanks everyone for your advice. I think my whole problem is that I feel guilty that I'm eating something that I know is bad for me. But tonight I'm going for some chocolate ice cream or that snickers ice cream bar sounds good also. All I know is I have to stop teasing my self and just eat some sweets every once in a while.

This is what I do to curb my chocolate appetite.  I buy one Hershey's bar a week and eat two or three of the little pieces after dinner every night. It tastes soooo good but my belly is already satiated from dinner so I'm not tempted to eat the whole candy bar.

As for the mexican, chinese food, and cheeseburger, I eat one "bad" meal every weekend.  It's probably not a recommended behavior but it curbs my cravings and I've managed to lost 23 pounds doing it this way.

 Good luck!

i use the Vitalicious Deep Chocolate Vitamuffins (100 cals) to help me when i want something chocolately, which is like everyday. or i'll eat a piece of single wrapped dove dark chocolate. only 42 cals.
Skinny Cow curbs my ice cream hankering.  Plus I'm a dark chocolate fan. I keep a bag of Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kisses in the Freezer. Frozen chocolate is the best. 23 Cals. each. Work it in your calorie plan.

If you REALLY don't want to eat that stuff, then DON'T eat it. it is that easy. It may sound harsh but you're the only one in control, no one else. I had people arround me more often than not, eating stuff that is considered junk and even offering me a piece of it... Well I always rejected it and I never thought about eating it. Most of the stuff is already saved in my memory, I know how it tastes. If you want to lose weight then it is really simple. Just think about how great you will look after you reached your target weight and if you see something you really have to eat: that bar of chocolate, that big fatty burger, th at piece of sweet...

Stop it! You already know how it tastes and only because others carve that junk into themselfs doesn't mean you have to as well! Think of what that food will do to your body and stop thinking of food as a friend or foe, it doesn't matter, food is nothing else but fuel for your body, nothing else!

If you can stop to feel emotional about food then you can stop to eat bad stuff you just have to WANT to...

in regard to the chocolate and ice cream cravings, i ve found that for myself just having a handful of almonds (unsalted, whole almonds) curbs the cravings. it has enough cals and healthy fats to fill in that craving :) that or just have some and keep to the serving size and dont have it again for another couple of weeks after you have had it. those are my recommendations...good luck!:)
