Ice cream problems!!!

Quote  |  Reply
So my parents buy like, 7 different kinds of ice cream at a time and we always have it on hand.  The problem is I can't stop eating it.  I can stay away from almost everything else but I just have to have the ice cream and the bad thing is that once I start I ALWAYS end up having like 5 servings at least.  Any suggestions on what to do or what I could use as an ice cream replacement that isnt ice cream?!

I love ice cream too, but I discovered long ago that I was lactose intolerant but I found a few products that satisfy my craving for ice cream without all the fat. Try fruit sorbet, it is usually non fat and is delicious, also there is an prepared treat in the ice cream bar freezer called "Cyclone" , it is raspberry and lime flavoured and has no fat and no dairy.  Also you can try frozen yoghurt which is low fat ( usually, but check the lable and watch out for added things like chocolate chips, caramel etc) or frozen fruit bars which are 100% fruit, no added fat, sugar etc.

 Hope you like my suggestions!

Frozen yogurt, fruit sorbet, and low-fat, or even nonfat icecream! Edy's makes a no-sugar-added, fat-free ice cream that is WONDERFUL (just like the real thing) and is only 100 calories. If you eat five servings, then it'd only be 500 calories instead of like, 1,000. xD Heheh...

I'm an icecream-holic too.  I agree about the low-fat icecream and sorbet.  A few ideas: NEVER EAT OUT OF THE CARTON! If you have to keep going back to the freezer every time you want more, you will realize how much you're eating. Buy small icecream cones.  They're fun and only hold so much.  They're cheap too, and the calories aren't so bad, especially compared to icecream. Use a cheap plastic spoon.  If the icecream is hard, you can't eat it as fast with a plastic spoon or it will break.  If you practically inhale icecream like I do, this will slow you down.
Before you open the freezer stop and do 10 of some type of exercise such as 10 jumping jacks, squats, pushups. Then walk away, go into another room and shut the door for 10 minutes. If you still have to have the ice cream take a spoon and take ONE bite ( not a generous one either) and enjoy it. Put the ice cream away and go about your day. Ice cream is not going anywhere anytime soon so having 5 servings a day is ridiculous to your health.

I have the same problem with ice cream.  My suggestion is to make a smoothie out of the ice cream.  Buy a big thing of frozen fruit to make things easier.  Mix a half serving of ice cream with twice as much frozen fruit, add a little bit of fat-free milk, and stir it in the blender until it's smooth.  If you only eat the smoothies instead of the ice cream, at least it will slow you down enough to make you realize you're full, and you'll be getting better nutrients with the fruit.

Bonus: wash the blender right after you're done with it so you're not tempted to make yourself another serving.

yea, my mom just went to costco and bought ice cream from there (1/2 a gallon!) and i cant stop eating it either. It's been there for like 5 days and it's more than halfway gone. (1/2 cup is 270 calories! that's ridiculous).

yesterday I didnt have as much ice cream though. I took just one scoop of ice cream in a cup and ate it really really slowly. Then after like two bites (is it bite? you dont bite ice cream. oh well), some of the ice cream in the cup melted. I stuck it back in the freezer. When I craved it again I got my cup back (no refills!) and did the same thing. yea it worked. I had less than 1/2 cup yesterday b/c I kind of tricked myself into thinking I had a more than one servings (but i didnt! :D). NEVER take spoonfuls straight out of the bucket or you'll lose track of how much ice cream you've been eating (i've had more than 1000 calories of ice cream in a day before).

I am addicted to Fudgsicles!!  They are 40 calories for one bar and only one gram or fat.  The ones I get are the ones with no added sugar so I do not feel so bad if I have 2... or 3 in one sitting.
My issue isn't ice cream...its cookie dough.  But I agree with the fudgsicle thing, except I recommend the fat free ones instead of the sugar free ones.  They're creamier (I think).  They are 60 cals instead of 40, but oh so good.  I ate them even before I changed my eating!
I would talk to my parents about them getting the icecream in the first place. Convince them its not healthy for the household or tell them how it affects you.  My parents got whatever when I was with them but I was/am super strict with my regiman.  So I don't know how it would fly.
Oh my gosh me too. I never even liked ice cream at all until it became an off limits item. I just can't even buy it...except I do. The ice cream cone with a spoon idea is clever.
