I'd just like some suggestions about my formal dress.
Ok, it might sound vain, but I'd just like some suggestions about formal dress. You see, I havn't worn a dress besides school uniform since i was 8 and attended a wedding - i've always been towards the tomboy-ish side, until high school.
Now I'm in yr 10 and i have my school formal coming up. I've gone around shopping for dresses and havn't been able to really find one which suits me or they're too expensive.
In my gallery, there are two pictures of dresses that I found on Ebay, and they're both finishing their sales tomorrow. I THINK i would fit a size 6 better than the 8, but I'm not quite sure which dress would look better on me.
Any suggestions welcome! THANKYOU IN ADVANCE, and sorry if this offends you or anything.
i say go with the one that you believe will fit better. there's not much that looks worse than cloths that do not fit.
I'd go with the 6 if I were you. As Satyrswoman said, fit's key. And, for what it's worth, I think the size 6 dress is prettier.
I prefer the red one - its cute and not overly girly which sounds like it would suit your personality more.
I also really like the one you are trying on in your profile pic.
Hmm, I was also thinking more of the red one too, but it seems my parents both prefer me wearing the other one? I think it's because some of my chest bones protrude (the right sternum according to doctor) because of some abnormalty in my spine.... :S I'm not sure haha, but my mum is worrying her head off about it haha.
Thankyou guys for your suggestions! I was looking for friends who I could ask, but no close friends were online so I could show them the pictures! So I was thinking hmm, why not ask the friendly CC community! :) You guys are greattt! And the replies are so quick! And plus, its great to get an outsiders opinion; coz my friends often just say "oh anything will look good on you" and "you're so skinny anything will fit you fine".. which is not great help at times, especially as being too skinny actually works against me alot haha.
Oh, by the way compoundkid: the one i'm wearing, my mum liked that dress, but it happens to be see-through at the skirt! (though you can't see in the picture because of the lighting)
Red one. Hands down.
Just remember that if you have time... you can always have the dress altered to fit you before the event. That way you have the option of the other dress.
I bought a tea dress from the 50s for my prom, I had to get it altered to fit right. Tailors can do anything!
Jamminatorr is right about the tailoring.
As far as the dress is concerned, they are all very pretty. I think that with your pretty auburn hair and light complexion the red dress would be very flattering. I'd pair the dress with some very sexy classic black heels. Something with an open toe like a peep, or a conservatively strappy shoe would be sexy. As far as the jewelry, I would go with a creme-colored string pear bracelet and simple creme-colored pearl-drop earings. Assuming you are wearing your hair pinned up, this combo would be very elegant and understated. It would make you seem more mature. The red dress is more sexy and fitted which is probably why your parents prefer the others.
If you choose one of the creme dresses, I like the one on the right in the duo picture. It seems to have a better line to it in the bust area. Since you would be more covered, it would be a good accentuation point.
I hope this helps and if you want any more opinions, I'll be happy to oblige. Have a great time at your formal!

oops - maybe not such a good look then.
I LOVE the red one! I think that it would look great on you.
I think the red one is cuter, but if it won't fit you properly you don't want to risk it on something as importanct as a school formal. The white is also very pretty. Actually though I really like the one with the embroidery that you show trying on. Have fun!
id say the red one plus its much dressier that the size 8
OMG. the red one is absolutely gorgeous. In my opinion, i think the white one looks kinda weddingish, ya know? The red one just jumped out at me for some reason. I think u should stick with that one!!Plus, if you get the white one and find out that it's see through at the skirt as well, then you're without a dress. The red one is amazing and you won't have to worry about it being see through or anything. &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; &nb sp; Good luck at your formal and I hope you have a great time!!!
but it happens to be see-through at the skirt!
That's what slips were invented for! (I'm showing my age again, aren't I?)
You'll be lovely in any of them. Have a great time at your formal!!!
Just like everyone else has suggested.. definitely the red dress! with some peep toe pumps...
Yep the red one, peep toe pumps are a great suggestion. Wear black, or white ones. Don't go with a shoe the same color as the dress.

A slip was my first reaction too! I like that dress best and the red one second.

I hope I don't sound silly, but what is a slip?
Ok, so I bidded on the Size 8 cream dress yesterday, before posting on this forum, under my mum's instructions. But I didn't realise the sale ended before I returned from school.
And so I've been outbidded, and it appears that I'll most likely get the red dress after all, (if I don't get outbidded of course). Haha, seems like fate eh?
Just asking, would it be a good idea to bid near the end of the item's sale period (in four hours). Or bid now, and bid again if I am outbidded? I am new to internet shopping also haha.
Thanks for all the suggestions! So peep toe pumps you guys all suggest? Seems good, because funnily enough I have quite.. funny looking toes, so it's good to cover them up haha. Not that people would notice that much anyway.
Thankyou in particular: sngbrdchls77, thanks for the time you spent in your post, I am really grateful for your suggestions :) I have never dressed up , in year 6, my major tomboy year, at graduation I wore cargoes!! Haha, the year after I left they made it compulsory to wear 'formal' attire according to my brother.
I think they're both cute. If you have a see through skirt, you could buy a slip to wear under it. Most department stores carry them inexpensively. Ross/Marshall's are both good places to shop for dresses in person.
Ballet slippers always make good and comfortable shoes that can be easily dyed to match anything.
