I'd love to know how to completely stop my period.
I know, it's probably a terrible thing to say, but I don't really appreciate having a week of down-time each month because of it turning me into a severely pained, sullen, angry lump of flesh. ): My boyfriend cringes when I mention that it's that time of the month, anymore. Poor guy.
Anyway- to the real point. There has to be some way out there in the natural world to completely prevent one's period from occurring, while staying generally healthy. Any ideas?
I can't take birth controll pills. The reason why is because in the past, whenever I got on BC I'd get a huge spike in aggressiveness, poor anger controll and a terrible temper in general. Enough that I wanted to lash out, physically/verbally, at everything for just being there. That kinda startled me when I realized what was going on and it's made me wary of starting any more BC perscriptions.
Have you talked to your doctor about the contraceptive implant?
http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069137/
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/ facts/contraceptiveimplant.htm
It lasts for 3 years, is more effective than a sterilisation operatyion, fertility returns immediately after it's removed, it's not affected by antibiotics, vomiting or diarrohea or most other medical drugs that the pill is affected by.
It contains progesterone so normally stops periods altogether, though some women, like me
, will take a while to adjust and may still bleed for a month or so after. Everyone else I knwo that has one their periods just stopped straight away though.
It's inserted into the upper arm, on the inside, after the area's been numbed. You can't feel it though you may get a bruise after.
I used to think the idea of having something in your arm was GROSS but I'm used to it now and it's a good conversation starter: "Hi, I'm Cherry, wanna feel my implant...?"

I don't know of any ways to stop it, except for useing birth control of some sort. You may want to try other types of BC pills. There are some with lower doses that may not make you feel so bad, and you can take them in a way that makes you not have a period. I would talk to your doctor, and give it another try.
We all get moodswings and get terribly emotional, angry, and pained during our periods. That's just the way it is and I personally don't think it's a reason to want to get rid of them completely. Make sure you get enough calcium and magnesium during your periods, drink a lot of water, and take advil in the very morning for pain/fever relief. Trying other BC pills is another option: all are different and have different side effects, and you need to find one that fits you.
There is no way to "naturally" stop your period while staying healthy. You either need BC or some kind of sterilization procedure, neither of which are natural or particularly healthy.
That's just how it is. :/
if it were natural to be this pissed off, humans would have never made it this far, because all the men would be dead.
something else is going on and when I find out what it is, I'm going to kill them all. muahahahaha GRRRR
Well, if you are having a lot of emotional problems that go along with your period, you might be experiencing premenstrual dysphoric disorder. If this is the case, antidepressants can help. Some women only take them for part of their cycle specifically for this problem.
You might do some research into supplements. I have heard evening primrose oil mentioned, but I don't know anything about it myself.
yea its called a hysterectamy (sp). Its not that natural but you wouldnt get your period anymore but you'd be stuck on hormonal pills the rest of yourlife. Just go to a doctor and explain your current symptoms. Explain in the past you've been on bills b4 (let them know what pill) and see what their advice would be. There are pills out there that stop your period. There is also the BC shot. But that you have to make sure you get on time other wise you can be at high risk for pregnancy.
I know you said no BC.. but loestrin 24 makes it non existant (at least in my experience)
Well, there's pregnancy, menopause, and hysterectomy...
Ok, sorry for the snide comment. I think every women probably feels the same way you do, at least occasionally. Some choose to suck it up and drive on, some choose to take medications, some choose other forms of BC...
You need to discuss your options with your doctor. Express the symptoms you are having every month, your concerns, what you want to have happen, and the side effects. Your doctor should be able to give you some choices that will help.
estrogen blocking steroids?
hey, all those gross manly looking female body builders do not naturally look like that. It's all to do with the drugs.. they probably don't get their periods either
just a thought haha
...
personally though, I'd rather put up with a couple "off days" each month then deal with the side effects that come with a lack of menstruation (ie: osteoporosis, facial hair, lack of sex drive.. etc)
mini-pill, it' progestin only, so no estrogen side effects like you have been describing. spotting for a couple months and then i've heard that period can stop all together. at least that is what i am hoping. i am in my second pack.
I don't know if it's for you, but you could try cutting calories. Once when I ate 200 calories less than I needed on average a week (1,600 instead of 1,800), my period stopped. But do that only if you don't have many to cut out and still can eat to feel full, and don't go below a minimum number of calories daily. You can still be healthy this way.
But then, my periods have been weird and irregular or even nonexistent (due to iron deficiency) since I can remember, and I've had physical examinations, but I feel good and healthy.

I know you were being sarcastic, but I have to mention... a full hysterectomy can mean haing to go on hormones, but a partial one doesn't.
I had a partial hysterectomy many years ago (medically necessary) and they took the uterus and cervix, but I still have ovaries and have not needed any hormones.
Seriously doubt this is what the OP needs or wants, but I had to set the record straight.
That said my daughter has an IUD that releases a small amount of hormone to prevent her from getting pregnant or having periods. She has had problems with depression and other BC has always increased those problems, but this is such a small amout delivered directly to the uterus that it doesn't affect her moods.

no, don't do this.
a loss of menstruation is a common symptom of people who undereat, are underweight, or have an eating disorder (ie: anorexia and bulemia)... this is NOT healthy no matter how much you think it is.
If you have lost your period due to inadequate nutrition, it is not healthy even if it's just by 200calories... it means that your body is not supplied with enough fuel to function properly. Having a period is a good thing, but a lack of one means that something is wrong.
when people lose their periods due to malnourishment, they are much more susceptable to bone density loss, and if menstruation is delayed for long periods of time osteoporsis can occur.
Osterporosis is much more common in women then in men due to this fact alone. Women need to have their periods to produce the hormones that maintain bone density...

This won't help your mood but if you have no plans to have any more children, you could ask your doctor about - endometrial abalation.
It was suggested to me by my doc because I have extreme bleeding. I'm talking 10 days a month and 5-6 of those days are so heavy I can't be more than an hour away from the next closest bathroom. :oS
Essentially, they use a laser to sear the blood cells in your uterus. She said that most people will stop bleeding all together, but some will find that that they will have 2-3 days of light bleeding. It doesn't affect your hormones or anything, so PMS is still gonna show it's ugly mug, but it would help with the rest of the yuckiness. LOL
I haven't had the guts to go do it yet, I hate doctors, lol. But every month I think "darnit, I should just do this already" and I can hear my husbands voice in the back of my head saying "hear hear!" ;o)
Sorry for being so dramatic and looking like I'm rude, but:
Don't wish such a thing!!!
I wished it before and when it really happened (due to being underweight) it was awful! You start becoming a man! It's not something you'ld like!
Your period is what makes hormonal levels ok in your body. They make you look like and act like you are normal. Hormonal changes would affect you as much as pills, and you'ld probably have to take pills till the end of your life to balance your hormonal levels...
I LOVE my period. Wanna know why? It signifies NOT being pregnant and I like that.
If you won't try BC (I've not had a period on my Depo shot, been on it for 3 years), the other option is surgery. Good luck getting one though as most doctors are reluctant to do it if you don't have children. I mean, some are even reluctant to do a tubal litigation (permanent birth control) if you don't have children. I wanted to have surgery when I was 17 because of the pain and she wouldn't do it because I was young and didn't have children. But I was/am unable to get pregnant and her reasoning was "you never know". >_>
Insurance won't cover it if it doesn't have a real-surgery-needing medical reason if you're in the US.
You don't become a man if you don't get your period, you only get "man" side effects if you aren't producing estrogen naturally. When I was diagnosed with PCOS, the blood tests showed I had very low estrogen levels and very high testosterone levels, I got hair on my face and other places women don't naturally get hair at (yay for wax and veet!) but that's because of my hormone levels, I never "became a man", I've got freakin DD's, lol.
You may want to talk to your doctor about your periods. If you have insurance there are some BCs with very low hormones (so you don't go raging/emotional etc) like loestrin 24 fe. I want to go on that so bad, but it's $78 a month without insurance so... I can't. =/ A light period is almost like not having one. I mean so light that you can get away with panty liners.

Uggg! I tried Depo, hoping that would happen... Instead, after only one shot, I ended up w/ my period for 3 months straight, then the next 9 months were followed by 3 weeks each month on my period, & only one week off. It was horrible. And you know what that doc told me? "Yah, we've been finding a lot of people that seems to be happening to lately..." WTH?! It would have been nice to have been told that this might happen. :o(
Um you are lacking in a load of vitamins & minerals, you are what you eat.
how much leafy green veg have you had today?
good luck
I dont know if anyone else has already mentioned this - but Omega 3 oil has been showing in studies to be highly effective in tempering PMS - including cramps, anxiety and other moodiness.
I was never a big fish eater and I have had HORRIBLE pms all my life. Really life damaging symptoms. I wanted to end my period too!
But when I started dieting i started eating tuna or salmon 2-3 times a week and I have had a remarkable "cure" of my symptoms. I still get a little moody but I feel so much better it is almost like I am a new person.
Seriously - I can not say enough about how good I feel in contrast to the past.
It is so worth trying! If you dont want to eat fish - you can take the fish oil capsules.
Here is a short article that discusses diet for pre-menstrual symptoms
http://www.annecollins.com/diet-for-premenstr ual-syndrome.htm
One last comment - I did not go seeking a cure for my symptoms. I just happened to see a tv show where omega 3s were studied to see if they helped PMS. I realized that my new fishy diet directly corresponded with my sudden decline in symptoms. Last month I did not eat my usual servings of fish every week and I really noticed a surge in my symptoms again. This month I am back on the fish and once again I am much calmer.
