I had no idea what I was missing.
I used to hate tomatoes, but about a year ago I decided that too many otherwise delicious foods included them, and determined to learn to like them.
Well, I succeeded, and now I am eating the most amazing BLT. The heirloom tomatoes on this sandwich are pure awesome. I wish I had known, all those tomato-less years, what I had been missing!
Anybody eschew a food or activity for a long time, only to later find that such disdain was actually standing in the way of epic enjoyment?
liver. Had no idea how good it could be until I had pate.
(too lazy too look up the ASCII)
Onion.
As a kid, I hated Onion. too bitter, maybe. But now I LOVE it.
I would have to say onion too...I still don't like them raw, but cooked I LOVE them
olives
I hated a bunch of stuff as a kid: but I hear your taste buds do mellow out with age and you will end up developing different taste standards. I'm still working on a few things.
Things I used to hate and now like/eat:
- cooked tomatos (smooth sauce was ok but lumps? ewww! haha)
- eggs (still working on some kinds of cooked eggs)
- cooked mushrooms
- yogurt
- onions
- mashed potatoes
- fish / seafood in general
- cashews
...............................What did I even eat???
Things I still hate:
- almonds
- pineapple
- ham
- scallop potatoes
ETA: - olives YES.
Things I like that I used to hate:
-onions
-peppers
-sushi
-olives
-dark chocolate
-sugar pie (it's a Quebec thing)
My taste buds have certainly mellowed out...
cold prawns and cocktail sauce (nastiest idea in the world- but YUM)
Oooo, I still don't like those, fightinginsanity. I like ceviche, though. wtf!
oooo Ceviche is my new favorite lunch order. :) Can't believe I waited so long to try it. :)
Avocados! I just never liked the look of them, then one day i was trying to find something different to do with my salmon and i found a recipe in which the main accompaniment was avocado.....OMG it was the best thing I had ever tasted! Up until that point i thought of them as only something you wash with or pack on your face.
Mushrooms. The edible kind. [Have no aversion to the other kind ;)].
Spinach - I just assumed that I hated it all of the years b/c of the bad wrap it gets as a kid! I'm good with fresh spinach in salads, and I now incorporate the frozen into many recipes that just requite of a variety of veggies.
mushrooms, any kind of chinese food, feta cheese, and lima beans
I'm sure there are countless others but those are the ones off the top of my head.
Tequila
For years, the only exposure I had to it was the cheap, grotesque, paint peeling stuff that is only bought by college partiers for shots and getting stupid. So I assumed all of it wasn't even worth my time.
Then I went to Guadalajara, tried Don Julio Anejo, and realized how deprived I had been. I am now a Tequila Snob.
And for the longest time I avoided White Castle, then I had some bombers, and found them surprisingly tasty. Then a few hours later when my intestines decided to exact revenge, I started avoiding them again for a completely different reason.
Everything I don't like, I still staunchly hate. I hate very little. I hate anchovies and octopus.
oh my gosh, tons of things. I used to be a horribly picky eater. I'd have to say that the food that went from the least favorite to nearly-most favorite is broccoli.
bell peppers! and tomatoes, oh zucchini/squash too. I fell in love with roma tomatoes. Cooked spinach, I've also grown a liking to cottage cheese. Still can't get over the onions tho. And stewed tomatoes gross me out still.
Cottage cheese, until I tried the "no salt added" kind. I couldn't live without it now!
grapefruit--yummmmm!
Sushi. Several years ago I tried it at a party, and the consistency was nasty to me. Spat it out in a napkin. Now I love it, all different kinds. Raw tuna's a favorite of mine. I'm glad I gave it a second chance!
