at 5'8'' and 135, i'm looking to lose 15-35 pounds.  i'm done growing, and am fourteen years old.  what would be an ideal daily caloric intake, if i want to lose this weight by february?

Also, buddy, etc? that would be nice. but just a request.

Reason: Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.

how do you know you are done growing? you are only fourteen years old. I'm still not done growing, and am sixteen, but I definitely grew 1.5 inches since I was fourteen. Girls can still grow for years after there period, if thats what you were basing this theory on.

Besides that, you are actually at a healthy (albeit quite slim) weight right now. At a BMI of 20.5, you are really the perfect BMI right now, although as you grow both your height and weight will likely change, which at your slim weight, is not something to be afraid of.

I strongly discourage you from losing any weight at all. At 120, you'd have a BMI of 18.2, which is underweight and associated with some not so fun health risks. At 100 pounds, you'd have a BMI of 15.2 and probably need hospitalization. It is unsafe and unnescary to lose any weight.

If you are truly concerned, focus on getting a healthy balanced diet (including moderate indulgences from time to time) being active often in ways you enjoy (in other words, don't over do it) and having loads of fun. At age fourteen, the best is yet to come.

mypyramid.gov is a great resource for getting a good idea of how to balance your meals and maintain your weight healthfully. Calorie counting is really just a bad habit, in my opinion at least.

Be healthy.

do NOT aim to be 100 pounds at 5''8, I'M aiming for 105 at 5''1 so i really don't think that's a good idea :S

135 is a great weight for your height and age.  A healthy weight range for a 14 year old at 5'8" is from 111-153 lbs. according to the teen calculator.  As you get older, the lowest healthy weight will increase, 114 is the lowest healthy weight for a 15 year old of the same height, by the time you get to 18, 124 will be the minimum healthy weight. Please note that the low end of the range is only considered healthy if you did not have to diet to get there.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to keep a healthy diet with enough calories and keep a good exercise routine so your body can finish it's development and growth.  A weight lifting routine can make you appear thinner without the health risks of being underweight.

CC and its members cannot encourage or assist you in acheiving or maintaining an unhealthy weight.  I'd suggest that you review the teen nutritional information and perhaps consult with your health care professional to choose a healthy goal weight. Perhaps start with a goal of 5-10 pounds and work on your muscles.

135? Can we trade bodies? That is the perfect weight for your height. I'm 5'8, too, and that's my goal weight. I, too have thought about dropping my weight to even 115, but when I found out about BMI calculators online, I realized that if I wanted to be 115, I would either have to hope I shrink or allow myself to get anorexic. I don't want to do that, and you shouldn't, either.

Once you reach a certain age, you tend to stay at that weight, but there is a possibility of gaining. For example, when I was in 8th grade (about your age), I was about 160. I'm now 170-175 as a freshman in college (I think I need a new scale if I lose 3 pounds after using the bathroom). Unless you go binging, there's no way you can gain too much weight, nothing that can be easily brought back down.

Final advice: Use Calorie Count to maintain your weight, not to lose any. You're healthy and beautiful just the way you are.
