Could I be at my ideal weight?

Quote  |  Reply

So I started trying to lose weight this summer, and by the first week of college I was down to 125.  Then I started feeling hungry basically all the time, and at this point I'm back at roughly 130, and have been here for about 3 weeks.  I keep telling myself that I'm going to to cut calories and lose weight again, but everyday I end up eating a normal amount of calories.

Could it be that at 5'3 and 130 pounds I'm at my ideal weight?  I don't have a particularly curvy body (I'm barely an A cup), but when I look at recent pictures I actually think I look better than I did at this time last year, even though I had more muscle at this time last year and weighed the same.  Could I be at my ideal weight, even though I'm not very curvy and at the upper end of the BMI healthy range?

It's possible if you have a decent amount of muscle and haven't suffered any loss of bone density.

whats wrong w 130??

You probably are at your ideal weight, which makes me happy cuz I'm 5'3" and 145. So, if 130 is your ideal weight, maybe I only have 15 pounds to loose!

Absofreakinglutely. At 5'3 and 130, your BMI is 23, which is the middle of the healthy range. You like how you look, you feel good, your body is telling you to eat a maintenance amount of calories, and you're at a healthy weight. Go with it!

I think you are probably at your ideal weight.

Muscle weighs more than fat and muscle weight is healthy weight.

Congratulations Smile

VERY possible. My nutrition professor was talking one day about a guy who ran every day and had a well balanced diet and exercise life and looked as if he was obese; yet he was extremely healthy and well all around/. Everyone is different. We tend to rely too much on what advertisement makes us think we are supposed to look like. Just make sure you are staying healthy. That's all that REALLY matters. :)

Hey girl, this is very similar to my story too! I am 5'6" and 142 and I can't get back down to 138 -- sometimes I decide to do it but I get hungry and eat normal calorie intake whenever I try! (And just to compound this: even when I get really strict and can force myself to restrict I still don't lose the weight...go figure.)

Now I definitley need to take my own advice here, so take what I'm saying as though I am saying it to both of us since we both need it.

1. Nobody except you can even tell when it comes to a 5 pound difference.
2.Don't let the ghost of "I was thinner once" haunt you! Everyone was thinner once, like when they were 12. That doesn't make it good or right or desirable.
3. You're at a healthy BMI. BMI might not even be a good indicator, but it certainly isn't too lenient -- if anything it's too strict! So if BMI says you're fine, and you're a healthy person all around, I'd say let it go!

thanks for the responses, I came to this realization yesterday and it was weird but really cool!  Since I'm a freshman in college I'm still kind of worried about gaining more weight, but I seem to have an eating schedule down and be maintaining.

I think it's time we all decide to not let the body portrayed in a magazine ad dictate how we should look.  We're all different, and one definition of beauty isn't enough. Smile  As long as we're healthy, that's what should matter.
