Any ideas for a 475-calorie dinner?

We'll be eating out for dinner tonight, and I'm 475 calories from my limit.  Any ideas where we can go?  I'm not in the mood for anything specific.

I don't have a specific restaurant in mind, but just remember portion control. I was babysitting the other day and the parents had me take the kids to McDonald's. Not exactly healthy! However, I got a nugget happy meal and was at 420 for the nuggets and fries. (I drank water.)

A great piece of advice that someone gave me is to ask your waiter/waitress to bring you a take-out box when he/she brings your meal. Then, you immediately put half of everything into the box. That gives you a meal with more appropriate portions.

Sorry I couldn't give more specific advice!

Applebees has a weight watchers menu that has wonderful things on it! Check it out!!!!!!!!!

What choices do you have in your neighbor hood?  What foods are you particularly trying to avoid?  Do you eat out often?  or is it a rare ccasion?  If so, your choices should be things you wouldn't normally have at home but still within your healthy range.  If you have chicken everyday..then choose something else...instead of vegging out on fast foods, go for something different and new.  you could have indian food...with a lower calorie choice like Tandoori it's safer than the curries and balti and you can skip[ the naan and have some rice, and just remember your portions.  You could have chinese and ask them to not use any corn starch or sugar in your suace, or you can get Thai which is a bit healthier than greasier version of chinese foods.  Order a tofu dish or a rice noodle dish again being safe on portions, you can eat an american fare and have a grilled meat choice, half of their portion (save the rest for lunch tomorrow) and some steam or grilled veggies, ask them to not use butter or oil to grill your veggies.  and skip on the rolls, or have tex mex, and order the fajitas, with corn tortillas instead of flour and limit yourself to two tortillas and half of the skillet of fajitas.  That all should be about 500 or less...good luck....

Check out Applebees, they have a weightwatchers section to their menu and i just went to applebees.com and looked at the menu at the applebees in my town and it showed me the calories for all the weightwatchers menu items.  if you go to applebees.com and enter your zip you can look them up just click on the pictures and in the upper right hand corner it gives you nutrition info.  they even have dessert.  the highest calorie item was 480 most were under 400.  i've eaten them even when i haven't watched what i was eating, just because they have good stuff on there.

ooohh.. be careful of applebees lower cal menu items.  i just read an article on hungry girl (website dedicated to healthier options to high fat and bad for us food), and they did a seperate study to some major chain restaurant regarding their "low fat" or "healthier" meals.  what they claim and what the actual study concluded was not good..especially at applebees.  the fat and calories per serving were actaully quite a bit higher than published by applebees.

check it out.  if you have a cheesecake factroy near you..they seemed to be the most accurate.

other suggestions that you can get most places is just a really great salad, dressing on the side and watch the cheese, nuts and other small fried items they might put on..or if you have japanese..you can get sushi (with or with out fish), or persian food which has alot of griilled chicken breast or lean cuts of beef.  im a huge fan of salad bars as well.. i feel i get to eat alot for fewer calories because of all the fiber..just stay away from the bread bar or pasta and pizza if they have it.

good luck and remember..its one night..you can go a little over and it wont matter.  life is short..have fun!

Thanks for the ideas everyone!  We ended up eating at home (and I stayed within my limit) but now I have some ideas for later!

Especially the info on Applebee's!  I have a big problem with retaining sodium and WW doesn't have you watch that, just fat & calories I think (don't quote me on that, I've never been a member).

The biggest thing I need to remember is portion control, so the idea of asking for a takeout box right away is a good one.

Thanks again, all!  Hugs & blessings!

One of PF Chang's Shrimp dishes is only 375 calories. You can find it on their web site. Hope this helps!
