Ideas for crispbread toppings?
hoping for some unique ideas fed up of the same old PB and cottage cheese ![]()
Hummus with sliced cucumber.... tuna mayonnaise... avocado and salsa (or guacamole) .... egg mayonnaise (mix cooled home-scrambled egg with a little light mayo)... chopped fresh fruit mixed with a little fromage frais, cottage cheese or greek yoghurt.... thin layer of PB with some chopped banana on top...
My two favorites:
Curry Melt:
- Spoonful of fat free ranch dressing (15 cal)
- Fat free shredded cheese (I use half a kraft singles slice) (15 cal)
- Cumin and Turmeric to taste
- Microwave until cheese is slightly melty (15 seconds or so)
Pizza:
- Tablespoon of tomato sauce (I actually use tomato soup) (maybe 10 cal?)
- Fat free shredded cheese (15 cal)
- A pinch of basil
- Microwave until the tomato soup makes the bread a little soft instead of crunchy. It will be just like a real pizza. (20 seconds or so)
If you use a 35 calorie crispbread, each recipe is under 65-70 calories. :D I usually make two pieces at a time (since each serving uses half a cheese slice), and it's as satisfying as medium-sized piece of pizza.
Thank You!!! The avocado and salsa sounds brilliant, so does the mini pizza idea! can't wait to try them out.![]()
OK I have three really good recipes for toppings for crispbread and crackers or flatbread.
The first one is 1/2 cup of black olives 1/2cup of green olives, 3 tbsps of olive oil and garlic powder, and salt... I also use Mrs Dash. Grind in food processor. It is so yummy.
Next Take half cup each of walnuts, almonds, and pecans...I have also used pine nuts, and macadamia nuts... any nut is good. Grind nuts in food processor, add 3 tablespoons olive oil and one or two table spoons of bacon bits... I use Oscar Myer ones.
Next Two cups of chopped tomatoes, 1cup chopped cucumber and one green pepper, and one can chopped black olives. 1 Package of real bacaon bits and one envelope of good seasons italian dressing mix and half cup of olive oil and one tablespoon of sugar and two tablespoons of fresh garlic or two teaspoons of garlic powder. Mix is a bowl and let chill for an hour.
All of these keep really well. They are filling and are very good sources of fiber, and healthy fats. I usually eat four of five crisps with topping at lunch with a drink. It fills me up, and I stay within my calorie intake.
Thanks schatzigirl, love olives so the first one sound like the most fun for me. Thank you for the suggetsions best of luck on your fat loss journey ![]()
