If you have a fridge at work, try bringing lowfat, low sugar yogurt, string cheese, hard boiled egg, etc. The protein will keep you full MUCH longer than cereal bars or candy! I also drink cup after cup of tea...the hot beverage tricks you into feeling full for a little while!

not sure if you have access to a fridge at your place of work, even if you don't you could still pull this off with some other options...

if I were you, I would go for snack items that are more protein-packed...like string cheese, cottage cheese, almonds, even a tablespoon of peanut butter. That keeps you satisfied and feeling full MUCH longer than empty carbs/processed snacks. I know it's a lot easier to grab something pre-packaged and processed (like a cereal bar), but the pay-off with the not as easily accessible foods is WAYYY more worth it! Hope that helps :)

Meh on the fridge.  Too far away from my desk, too smelly, too pawed up by other people.  Here's my inventory of snax:

1 ounce portions of almonds

1 apple

1 orange

1 portion (I mean, weighed, measured, actual serving size) of Trader Joe's Reduced Guilt White Cheddar Chips (a treat for today!)

Wasa hi-fiber crackers

Peanut butter

baggie of carrots/cucumbers

Baggie of popcorn (weighed and measured, again, so a home-made 50cal pack)

Sometimes I'll bring a little container of hummus or yogurt dip to dip my veggies in, too

And in the car for the ride home:  Annie's Bunny crackers, again pre-portioned into 100 calorie servings.

well, point being there's lots of whole foods/light foods that are easy to keep around.  I'm a pretty prolific snacker :)  For me the biggest deal was portion size, so I bought snack-size ziplock baggies and divided everything up when I bought it.  Pretty much anything in the right quantity makes a good snack :)

In my desk I currently have....

Kashi bars (crunchy and chewy varieties)

Zone snack size bars

Nuts

Apple

Banana

Whole grain goldfish cracker

Green tea on-the-go packets

Special K Protein water packets (not a huge fan, but I had to try them!)

I also keep yogurt or cut up fresh fruit (strawberries, watermelon...) in the fridge.  Of course there are only 10 of us in my office, so I don't have to worry about a full or smelly fridge :)

Ugh our fridges (we have 3 or 4) are all full of DO NOT WANT.  *shudder*

about 14 baby carrots

1/4 c. nuts (pistacios, almonds, whatever kind you like :)

orange, apple, banana, grapes (or any fruit that's easy to take along)

apple slices w/2 tbsp natural peanut butter

1/2c. cottage cheese w/fresh fruit (peach slices, pineapple, grapes all good :)

whole wheat crackers w/ 2 tbsp natural pb

celery sticks w/pb and raisins (aka ants on a log :)

yogurt

banana chips, apple chips, pear chips (all good but check labels some brands have a lot of sugar in them!)

or your own trail mix, I mix up some nuts, dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, dried mango all my favs), sunflower seeds(plain) and sometimes some dark chocolate chips.

I usually portion things out into snack size baggies or tupperware, so things are easy to take w/and I'm satisfied w/out the temptation to overeat. and you can put things in a little cooler w/an icepack if you don't have or don't wanna use the fridge at work.

100 cal popcorn mini bags

special k 90 cal cereal bar

can of mixed nuts (a handful for a snack)

for my sweettooth, I have ghirardelli dark chocolate squares. I eat 1 when I need something sweet.

STRING CHEESE

grapes

I agree with all of the above, I also like dried fruit. And if you have access to hot water or a microwave, the instant maple and brown sugar oatmeal now comes in "weight control" it's a goodway to curb a craving for sweet cakey things.

This is my favourite snack as of right now.

Vanilla yogurt, mixed with any kind of granola-y cereal (I usually use corn flakes) and sliced strawberries and bananas. If you get the fat free yogurt (unfortunatly sweetened with splenda) you can have a huge bowl of it for 250 calories max.  It honestly tastes so good, and it's sooo filling!

I guess I would keep gum and carbonated water. I do not like to keep snacks around me becasue I am struggling currently with controlling my appetite. I will eat whatever just because it sounds good even though i am not hungry. I guess I am lucky for now that my job requires me to be on my feet with only 3 scheduled breaks.

Since you do not have a fridge you do not want to use...get a mini cooler an put it under your desk.

fruit is the obvious healthy snack. i don't really like eating one whole fruit (bit boring) so i make up a fruit pot every morning to take in with me. just three or four fruits cut up into small bite size pieces with a splash of orange juice.

my morning snack has to be sweet and satisfying so every sunday i bake a tray of muesli bars for the week ahead. great for an energy boost midmorning (especially if you've been to the gym before work!). i put it into the recipe thing on here and you're looking at about 200+ cals but they aren't empty calories - i add loads of nuts, seeds, fruits, and oats and use honey, peanut butter and just a little nob of butter to bind them.

Hmmm, well it really depends on just how many calories you are willing to eat in your snacks.  I personally have a hard time ever feeling filled by just a 'snack.'  A filling snack for me would end up being well over 500 calories no matter what I ate!!  but if you don't have this problem, muffins are good.  Of course they would have to be muffins that you made yourself so that you could have theme as low calorie and low fat as possible!!  I made REALLY yummy muffins the other day that were about 87 cal each (regular sized) and 0 fat!  Also good, fat free plain yougert.  The plain stuff isn't sweetened by splenda (blackout).  I really like to mix fruit in this yougert.  What else...  cornflakes and bran cereal is good to snack on, but is definately not filling at all (unless you wanna eat the whole box).... but umm,  a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich is nice... use the lowest cal bread you can find, fat free cream cheese, and cucumbers... you could make it for around 185 or so cal... I know that is kinda high for a snack, but it is at least much larger and WWWAAYYY  less fat than the musli bars suggested by bebe_66.  I'll let you know when I think of others!!Laughing

Bananas are the best snack going. They're really good for you, more filling than any other fruit, and yummy! Plus they don't need to be kept in a fridge. I always have two or three in my desk drawer.
